I want to buy a domain name, I've searched the internet and found there are much difference in domain prices between registrars .com in Go daddy is about 9$/y, powweb is $15/y while yahoo offers $1.99/1st year. 1-Why is there so much difference in price between registrars? 2- Which registrar do you recommend? 3- I want to buy a domain and host my site in one of the free hosting companies (like yahoo and awardspace) fow the time being, is that possible? Thank you for your help..I really need it.
Id get the domain from godaddy.com (search for coupons, should be able to get it for about $7/year), because just about everyone uses then and over the past 7 years, Ive never had any troubles. As far as hosting, search around, and you'll be able to get add-free hosting for less than $1/month. Or, if you really need it to be free, go to http://free-webhosts.com. Good luck.
Yahoo is new and they are using the deep price discount and offering the domain names at the loss for the first year. They hope that when you sign up with them, they will retain you for subsequent years and thus make the money. The domain name industry is very competitive and prices can vary, pick one that is reliable. Personally, I would prefer Namecheap.com , Domainsite.com or Godaddy.com . Yes, you can host in one of those free hosting. Some may or may not allow you to use your own domain name. You will need to check with them. Web hosting is dirt cheap now so you can go about getting a paid solution, all it cost may be just a couple of fries a day. If you are hosting a business site, it would not look professional if you host at a free hosting site. They may plaster the site with tons of irritating banners and advertisements and have several limitations.
Actually, Yahoo doesnt register the domain names. The registration is done by http://www.melbourneit.com.au/
Does not matter. It's a Yahoo service that is handled by melbourneit, no big deal. I register all my domain names with Yahoo. It's a reputable company and they would not outsource their services to an un-trustworty party.
Well, from what I understand, Yahoo resells for Melbourne IT. If you get the domain name direct from Melbourne IT, you be paying AUD$35 per domain name/year but if you get it through Yahoo, it is $1.99 for the first year and then $9.95/year. On Yahoo's website, it shows that they are the one selling the domain name. http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/ . It does not matter who they are reselling for as you need to order through Yahoo to get the discounted prices and Yahoo is the one offering it.
I wonder if the free hosting services has dns service or else you just have to usd domain forwarding or redirect.. Personally, i think namecheap is best. There is free hosting avaiable from godaddy when you buy a domain, but the free hosting is not very good..
i suggest godaddy and namecheap. trusted and proven registrars. also you get free private reg in godaddy when you buy more than 3 domains.
thank you very much for your help. I think there is no offer for yahoo as today in their site it's $9.95/year
Go with a paid hosting account, just get a reasonable priced one. You should be able to get a decent hosting package for a small site for less than 10 bucks per year. If you are just looking to register a single domain, there is nothing wrong with yahoo. I have hundreds of domains with them (and many other registrars). You cant push and you are somewhat limited in advanced dns controls, but this probably wouldn't affect you.
I use godaddy.com & they have plenty of other sales on theu-out the year to make it really worth ya while.
