Ive noticed that some people use rel="tag" in their links whilst other dont use it. Is there a real benefit of using this attribute when doing link exchange?
Yes there is. Take a look at the source code of http://www.seotier.com/ and you'll see a bunch of rel tags...
Apparently I didn't make myself clear. There is nothing WITH REGARDS TO SEO. I thought it was clear what I meant since this is the SEO forum.
There are no "other" tags. It's just like class="" and id="". You can call it rel="henry" and give it a meaning.
To clarify, rel="tag" is a microformat. It's used to categorise the page that the link is on. The main use is in conjunction with Technorati. Linking to technorati.com/tag/toothpaste from page A indicates that page A is about toothpaste. It's irrelevant in almost every case since I doubt most people even know how it's supposed to be used. It also has no SEO value since it's one of those factors that's far too easy to game.
when you get a link pointing to you with the rel=nofollow tag, you get no SEO benefit. The other uses of rel have nothing to do with SEO
no prob....download the SEO for firefox plugin....it will label no follow links with a bright red so you can easily spot them.
Could you also talk a little bit more about those rel="nofollow" links? What do they do? And while you're at it, could you explain to me what PageRank is? And what is SEO? Why do people do comment spamming? Why do people not read the entire thread before making stupid posts? So many questions. I hope you can help.
Awww, was that supposed to hurt? Not my problem that you can't be bothered to think before you write.
