AdSense Testing Another New ‘Related’ Ad Format

Speaking of Google testing new types of AdSense ads - Dave from DaveDevelopment just emailed me to show me a new type of ad that he’s seen Google experimenting with. Here’s how it looks (click to enlarge):

It’s a 728×90 banner ad with pictures inset into the ad next to the text of the ad and with tabs along the top that seems to be titled ‘related’ with some tabs after it under the headings of ’searches’, ‘web pages’ and ‘video’.

I’m not sure how these ads work as I’ve not seen one live in action - but they seem to be another ad format that lets readers of a site choose what they want to see (similar to Chitika’s eminimalls).

They'll probably release it to premium publishers first and see how it does before letting the rest of us use it. Or, they might not let us use it altogether, haha.

I don't really care for it. I don't think it'll get very many clicks.

Are these already live on sites or is it something they are planning?

I wouldn't mind it. I'm always open to anything that changes the appearance of the ads. My traffic is mostly people who come to my site 2-3 times a week. They get use to seeing the ads and ignore them without thinking about it - they just block it out and read the content. Something new, like these ads, would catch their eye simply because it's different.

no, it isn't something like free ads, why would google do such a thing.
They are sites related to your site, it's easyer to click on those sites that has the same info as you are, then seraching google again.

I was going to say, an Ad like that would just be a click magnet. I am glad this is not part of the adsense scheme, because it would suck.
