Is it me, or has anyone else noticed that google bombing is not pulling the results it did 3 weeks ago. 3 weeks ago our old favourite "liar" would produce the official page of Tony Bliar, now it does not... Does this mean our old freind in SEO the Anchor Text has lost its value, also when did this change in the algorythm occur and did any other major changes take place at the same time. I'm noticing my sites are coming higher for their keywords and the other spammy sites are starting to drop off the radar, perhaps they have taken some good steps in the last few weeks?
Yeah, I noticed that failure no longer brings up George Bush. However "Click Here" still brings up Adobe. I don't know if this can be considered a 'bomb' or not though.
No what happens is that anchor links are discounted if the words do not appear in the body of the text and are then discounted even further if they are not in a phrase. You could still google bomb for "the bush" because the both the words the and bush appear on the page, but you wouldn't be able to google bomb for "liberal monkey" because neither of those words are on the page and even if they were they would need to be together so that the incomming link passes on the value.
I gathered as much, but this surely points to a major change in the way google works if such changes have occured in the last few days. Hopefully for the better, as i'm fed up with spam type sites coming top of the searches. I've also noticed a sharp rise in Google Local results appearing, this is giving quality local results for people searching for the likes of restaurants or whatever. Not PPC or Non SEO sites with real relevance are coming on the top page. Whatever google has done in the last week is better for people looking for things on the web, as it is throwing up some really relevant sites.
I think Google also looked at the fact that it was highly unnatural for a site to have thousands of incoming links with the exact same anchor text.
Google put up a new algo weeks ago that "defeated" Google bombs. You can read about it on Google's blog: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/
Yeah,, they announced it a few weeks back.... I have some coverage on the Death of the GoogleBomb I also have a Phrase Based Indexing and Retrieval conspiracy thoery on how it MAY have been accomplished - PaIR and GoogleBombs That shuld get U right up to date on that one - cheers....
They still have a lot of work to do to improve Local Results. The rankings are the shits. For most cities it appears to be based on a ranking by distance from a geographical point. Often city hall, or courthouse, mayors office or some official center of town. kind of silly. But I don't see what else they could do, besides alphabetical as you don't even need a website to be in local results.
Did no one notice that haliburton bought out google! Uh all funning aside quality of backlinks will prevail. Axemedia I agree the results are a amiss ... eh. Hi from down under in B'ham.
