Really --great humor. :D :D I like it.

BTW: I am currently using phpLD2.1 which is free and easy to use. Being a nobody-with coding--I find it easy to use:cool:

Ok what is with you and your attitude cantufind ? Everytime there is a talk about directory script you start bitching at phpld and others ? all you could have done was posted list of features of your script and be gone with that, but no instead you had to drag phpld and others into it ? Is that normally the style you use to try to promote your script? If so your script days are numbered, cause trust me if you put "Features and " Attitude of owners" on a weight scale, probably always attitude will weigh more. So right now your lacking that, so i doubt anyone would give crap about your script, with your so called conservative attitude.

First of all, is Watchout dumb or something ? He does not even own a script nor has the brain cells to make one either i am assuming(i could be wrong like most of the time), so how the hell can he even challenge someone ? Only a challenge can be first of called by those who think they are better than the other from same field, for example i can challenge other template coders with something, but not challenge PHPLD that i can make a script better than them or challenge them to code a template from psd (cause i do not think they are involved in template coding).

    Ambiguity in watchouts post :
He is challenging directory script owner (not directory owners) so only directory script makers should be responding right cantfindu (which just makes me look like a dumbass cause i posted here, well if you look at this way it makes you look like dumbass too as i doubt you have 100% ownership to the script,if you do please provide legitimate proof of the same).

So, before you open your mouth(well always i have seen only shit come out of it for some odd reason) you should think 2wice and answer these question :
    • What is wrong with me ?
    • Should i drag PHPLD into thread ?
    • Am i a moron ?
    (Am,me stands for you cantufind)

Those questions and their reply should help you a bit to post in a non-bitchy manner as always,so bitching at popotalk would not get you anywhere , you just lost a potential user of your script by your replies, good luck once again to you.

    Hi
    I use phpld.
Aside from the nice features of phpld listed by vic_msn, one of the main advantages of phpld is the dominant Template development community which means more templates and choices for users. Like MS Windows.... the sheer number of templates available for phpld will entrench its position in long term.
    Cheers! :)

My directory is custom made coded in J2EE platform. Every single module in my web site is cutom made and believe or not: I' ve even modified Struts framework - that's the beauty of open source

It's truly a shame that a certain few here continuously ensure that there's never a professional and honest discussion about the various directory scripts, their features and how they differ from one another. What are you afraid of anyway?

It would seem to me that if every script creator believes that they have created a top-level product that they would welcome a balanced discussion rather than having any attempt at such disussion derail into name calling and the childish rantings that we keep seeing.

The list of directory scripts on the market is fairly small. It would seem by the ever-changing requirements of directory owners as we all try to come up with something new and unique, that no one script will EVER be the solution for every implementation, and rightly so.

Most would say that MS-Word has the biggest market share among word processors; but, any heavy user can tell you it's shortcomings and which other products they may use for specific requirements i.e. professional technical writers often use FrameMaker instead of Word for long documents. Does that make either Word or FrameMaker any better or worse than the other? Not at all. It's simply a matter of different requirements requiring different tools.

Even MicroSoft has come to realize that they are not, nor never will be the only game in town. That is obvious from the ability to save a Word document in another product's format. They've come to realize that many people are going to use different tools at different times.

THERE IS NO ONE DIRECTORY SCRIPT FOR EVERY IMPLEMENTATION!!!

There are options and choices here and it just amazes me that one particular script's followers (or at least one of their followers) are/is not open to a fair discussion.

People come to this section of DP to learn about running a directory, the various options open to them to do so, and establish a relationship with other directory owners. It's such a shame that intelligent conversation seems to no longer be part of what they find here.

As to the original question in this thread - while I had to read it twice to make sure; I understand the OP when talking about a "directory script owner" is referencing someone who purchased and now owns the script rather than the person/company selling the script.

Along those lines...my input is as follows...

I originally chose eSyndiCat for my directory script because as someone who had no expertise in php or running a directory, the admin panel for eSyndiCat just looked more user friendly than did phpLD. Both appeared, at the time (May-June 2006) to have similar features; but ES just seemed to this newbie to be easier to manage. (Keep in mind, at that time there were substantially fewer choices than there are now.)

I had one major requirement I knew of going into things and had contacted both ES and LD directly asking about it. I have to say neither of them knocked my socks off with a timely reply - one of them never did reply to my initial inquiry. I wanted a script that allowed for creating my own field with an unspecified length. I was told both ES and LD could do that, but, I could only see how on the ES demo.

SEO-friendly this and that only came as I learned about running a directory and more about SEO.

Were I choosing today, I would choose differently. I won't air dirty laundry here on DP about ES, despite so many seeming to revel in it; but, my reasons and issues are documented and available should anyone care to look. Remember, everyone who asks which script to use always gets the same response from me - check the support forums to see how well support handles questions, complaints and requests. ;)

Can we please stop this petty bickering and have some honest and open conversation here? Please?????

And when someone asks a question about the different scripts can folks please stop wasting everyone's time with "I use blah blah blah it's the best."? That is not helpful. If the OP is polling who uses which script, fine make those kind of posts; otherwise, kindly keep to the point.
