I believe it does. One of my forums has had it from day one, so I can't measure if it improved anything. But we do rank well for a lot of good terms. A lot of big sites do use vbSEO, like NamePros, Tundra Solutions (truck site), and others. But you need good content for it to do any good. Zoints offers a feature similar to vbSEO's URL rewriting feature. There's also a mod on vbulletin.org for rewriting URLs if that's all you're after.

I think vbseo is a mod so whats makes it different from those mods you speak of from vb.org itself?

Plus namepros is not big as compared to DP .

DP stats right now : Currently Active Users: 1,092 (262 members and 830 guests) -

NP stats right now : Currently Active Users: 777 (191 members and 586 guests)

So i feel that members count matter most rather than guests count.

Of course NP isn't as big as DP, but I was giving examples of large sites that use it.

vbSEO does a lot more than just rewriting URLs. Don't have time to list, but check out their site/forum.

paidhosting: I guess this thread will help you on your decision. He is the owner of v7n forums and reccommends vbseo at the end of the thread.

I am tempted to try it, but I have to say that the existing threads on my forum seem to be pretty well indexed already without it

Any vBulletin forum admin who wants to achieve more Web traffic should consider vBSEO. This includes new forums as well as existing forums. We'll be releasing 2 case studies soon that show the huge difference between forums that are just doing ok, and those that vBSEO-enable. You'll be amazed at what happened... and excited about the possibilities for your own forum.

It's really a task of figuring out how valuable traffic is to you. If you make money on your site from ad revenue or product/service sales, then you can do an estimate on how much extra revenue a higher level of web traffic would generate for you. You'll quickly find that it's more expensive not to run vBSEO! Consider:
    http://www.vbseo.com/f55/thank-you-vbseo-you-bought-me-new-car-7923/

For sites that do not have any forum of revenue generation, your forum may be solely for information purposes, or just for the love of community.

With the sole exception of a 100% private (by invitation only) forum, admins want more web traffic, more posting, and more members, etc. For about 45 cents a day for 1 year, you can have the vBSEO solution with a lifetime license to help you achieve this. Targeted traffic from the search engines is simply the best way to grow your forum.

We purchased vbSEO about a week and a half ago and we are seeing good results already. I have noticed our visits have gone up about 1000-1500 a day. We do have somewhat of a big forum though so we have a lot of data and we are crawled by all search engines a lot. You can see it running on our forum here http://www.bemanistyle.com/forum/

I was wondering if new forums need vbseo or is it only for big forums who already have got lots of posts?

VBseo woul help you (paidhosting) without a doubt anybody that knows SEO well will tell you that, with keywords in the URLs & not ? it's bound to increase spidering & traffic.

With regard to sitepoint they probably are just like me they understand the benifits but think a forum can do very well without them so they don't bother.

To build a successful forum, you should not overlook any factor. SEO is a big component. If you can earn extra traffic from the search engines through increasing crawling, indexing, & ranking - that's excellent... obviously! :)

However - the best forums in the world are also very proactive. Their admins are available & online a lot, responding to threads, creating high value new content, launching contests, evaluating and recruiting new moderator staff to help with the efforts, and making friendships (building community).

There is no single factor for success. But the really big factor is SEO - and that can be achieved with under a 5 minute installation from vBSEO. Consider the possibilities. If you want to find out what a forum that has all of these factors is like, check out my signature link.

Just wondering, is VBSEO unlimited for the amount of forums you own, or per forum?

Don't get sucked in by the endless vBSEO infomercials disguised as posts, most by vBSEO affiliates.

vBSEO is not necessary to establish a successful forum.

So-called "search engine friendly URLs" or "mod_rewrite solutions" are not necessary to achive success with a vBulletin forum. vBulletin URLs are already search-engine friendly.

Everything that vBSEO offers you for $160 can be had for free with Zoints SEO and, if you insist, two other free add-ons.

    What helps most is:

    1. optimizing your forum title and page titles

    2. optimizing content, especially for your main index page, using informative and keyword-rich forum titles and descriptions

These two things can be done manually or with the free Zoints SEO add-on.

    And of course:

    3. incoming links with appropriate anchor text - these you'll have to do yourself - no SEO add-on can help you with that
