Can changing hosts improve rankings?

    Hello DPians!

I want some expert advice on this. I recently, changed my host and all of a sudden, I got a huge increase in the traffic that I recieve from Yahoo and specially Google. I am not an SEO pro by any means and I certainly didn't do anything out of ordinary. Is it because my site has started to age a bit or is it because I changed my host?

    Thanks!
    Z

i dont think, just cause u changed ur host, ur gettin an increase in the traffic.
Although it is also beneficial for a site to have min. downtime in regards to SEO.

Wat mite have happened is that watever work u would have done for ur site, they would be ripening, so there would have been a jump in the statistics.

PS: I m not an expert but still i couldnt resist myself :p

Changing hosts won't affect traffic, well unless maybe your old host's IP was blacklisted or something.

I would agree also, changing hosts shouldn't have anything to do with a increase in traffic. Well, unless your old host was really bad with downtime, etc.

Changing hosts should make no difference to rankings.

It happened to me once when I changed on of my websites from shared to dedicated serverf and get almost 0 down time with very fast response server, I have witnessed a significant increase in MSN traffic (Google and Yahoo not that much)
But in my case my shared host was very bad with almost daily 30 minutes down time

excatly this was my thought as i opened this thread:
better to go with popular hosts, sometimes the ip's of smaller hosts are banned. also if there is the error, page not found on cheap hosts, ranks sometimes goes down.
with proper hosts, where the loading speed is very high because of better servers etc, and 100% uptime, it really helps a lot.
    cheers!:)

Thank you so much for your prompt replies! :)

Hmm so that it means there is a possiblity that my other host might be sucking it up for me! Yes, I guess downtime should matter BUT... I did get some traffic from MSN and very low from google and yahoo. Maybe I should try to put more of my websites on my new server and see if it has any affect on them? Should I do this? Is this safe enough?

Your old server IP address may be in the spam/blacklisted database so because of it your website was not attracting google's attention.

Just getting out of it can be attributed to this.

If the site on the new host loads faster then the old host then yes you can see an increase in traffic. If you're old host was slow and pages took more then a few seconds to load then chances are the user pressed the back button already.

Terabite had a thread about this somewhere on the forum, his traffic and earnings increased quite a bit after he transfered his site to a faster and more reliable host.

In summary, faster loading pages = more traffic = more earnings.

Yes good point, if you move to a host outside of your targeted country this will probably affect rankings. Remember to ask your host where you site will be hosted. I know some UK hosts rent out server space from US.

It has nothing to do with hosting. May be your earlier host was blacklished. Thats why, there is a sudden increase in traffic.

IMO,... only host ur site on good/quality server. Not to host at cheap hosting that offer same server to warez/hacker/adult site.

thats what i think, moving to a clean server, helps.

Wait Wait Wait.. are you saying the search engines can block your hosts' IP?
So that means no matter what you do.. you won't get indexed in Google?

    Please clarify! Thank you. :)
