Hi Does anyone have ideas on which ads can be used on 404 error pages?? Adsense, Yahoo, Miva, are out.... What do others use?? Thank you in advance
Pay per impression ads. (depends on how many views your 404 pages recieve lol). Why not just redirect people from the 404 pages to your main pages with adsense? You'll probably make more $$
Thank you for the help... I have Adversal on them now.....last month one site alone had over 100,000 404 errors.
That's a lot of errors... maybe you can place pay per impression instead (they pay around $3 per 1000 impressions). You can give it a go for a month, then switch to another method to see which one suits your site better.
I agree with redirecting them to the page they are supposed to go or to the homepage. If not, an affiliate redirect to a related service/product.
Sem Advance, I dont know why more people dont do this: Google adsense has recently tightened their restrictions on using images above their adsense ads. Basically, that's because many people click thinking it is a link to content and they are disappointed when they see an ad or website that had nothing to do with the picture above the text link: The point is that using imagery above a text ad WORKS to at least get relatively untargeted traffic and clicks. SO, here is my suggestion to you... post your own images above to text links for paid by impression advertisers and affiliates. Make sure the images are relevent for optimum results. You dont have to obey Google's TOS if they are your own ads. Get animated clip art from royalty free sources and actually point to the ads (a big no no for google, but again, just fine if you are making your own!) You can do the same with text ads with small amazon books above them relevent to your site content (i.e. computer and software books on a computer techie site, etc) Finally here is a juicy hint for you! Disguise The 404 page to be an actual content page laced with the above mentioned affiliate links! Make a cool content page that generally covers the area of your website subject and just place some bold text somewhere on the page informing your readers that this is the default 404 page! That way, you arent being a sneaky jerk and you are still offering them a page they will likely stay longer on rather than reflexively clicking away as most do when the reach 404 pages! Hope that helps you!
Well, I have tons of those errors too. I guess its about time to dig through some log files to find out whats going on.
