Can't people steal your adsense revenue

I had been getting growing adsense revenue from my article directory article-gems.com but its been shrinking in January and February even though my website traffic is increasing. I've been to a few sites that ask for your adsense revenue code to share revenue (as you do on digital point) however I wonder if all are legit.

    Am I being paranoid?

I came across a "proxy" site that strips out your adsense code and just shows your website - I didn't think people could mess with your adsense ads like that.

    Any suggestions?

People don't have to ask for the code in order to get it.

Sure, if someones visits you through a proxy, the proxy itself can do whatever the owner programmed it to, including replacing your AdSense code with theirs. But are you expecting a significant portion of your visitors to be visiting you through proxies (and "evil proxies" to top it off)?

You are being paranoid. The only way earnings could be stolen from you would be if someone hacked into your site and changed the account ID in the Adsense code.

Smart pricing could be your problem.

Well, that's not stealing your Adsense income but rather, the proxy site is stealing your content! I notice sites about "articles" tend to get copied by unscrupulous scrappers.

I've heard about this practice (the one with proxies) but i wouldn't worry about it too much. A good idea would be to check your stats and see if people are coming from a proxy site or a questionable source.

You should also check from time to time that the adsense pub id is yours.

Also as Sleepy said, it could be the smart pricing or low paying ads.

Sure....google grades your content to see what the value of the click will mean to the advertiser ....

So if your site was reviewing digital camera models the user is more likely to click the ad and buy and in return making that click worth more

If you site was just mumbo jumbo about cameras the click would be worth less...

So basically the better your content the better you won't get smart priced

That's not entirely true.. a hacker could re-direct traffic to his site using a DNS exploit, and copy your site exactly (or the top 3 pages) and insert his code. I was a victim of this last year. I discovered it using a program called adsense id checker, when my earnings plummeted (because of the low traffic) I had to get a dedicated server and hire a security expert to put a stop to it.

Thanks to you all for responding to my question. And no I don't might if I've started a bit of a debate going - makes interesting reading.

As for smart pricing I don't think there is a lot I can do about it. People submit their articles and I accept the article and its content so long as it fits in with my submission guidelines.

    Many thanks.

You get smartpriced when your clicks don't convert. Has nothing to do with the quality of your site.

In order to prevent such situations i have a script that if someone opens page via proxy , he is exited from proxy to the main site .
