wow. this might be the most general question i have seen to date. you absolutely cannot put a price on it unless you know the industry your trying to "SEO".

just going off your question though I would say thousands of dollars for most competitive markets.

its also an on going project. so reoccurring yearly payments might be nec. if you outsource.

hire a seo for in house it ranges from anywhere from 30/g a year to 100+ depending on the person's exp and qualifications.

    Rates depend on custom plan..

Like on-page optimization, link building, keyword enrichment, number of targetted keywords, your current site details etc..

Depends on your SEO skill level, track record, what work is actually going to be done etc...

I personally charge 50$ per hr for SEO consultation, and around 75$ per page of optimization for any one set of 3 keywords.

    Again, all about skill level!

You can get the affordable seo prices, if you outsource to India, but the person should have proven track of result portfolio.

His work portfolio and your industry profit margin also measures in prices....like if you are selling a product cost 10$ each then you certainly will not hire a person cost 1000$ per month.

Like me personally, if I wasn't a SEO specialist, I wouldn't type in cheap SEO - affordable SEO as to me that makes me think oh their not really good at what they do, I would type in Best SEO Consultant, or the like. But thats just me ;)

I charge a certain fee just for doing the on page seo and the time that is takes me to get quailty links for the site. Then I give a price of what I think it will cost in order to push their site for a certain keyword and all of that money will go towards building quality links, writing articles etc. And there is a monthly fee I charge in order to help maintian ranking, that cost will vary from site to site.

I couldn't understand your exact question. Did you mean like a SEO company or consultation, or did you mean how much it costs on average for one to SEO their site in order to get top rankings.

Well I'll give you my personal answer. How much did I spend to get my site in the top 10 for my main keyword on google?

    $0

    :D

I do run affordable SEO service but don't mean "cheap" :D

Many SEO businesses sell unnecessary services, including SE submissions and other crap. Mine is probably not for SEO newbies in a way, because I don't take a consultation fee even. Clients must know basic SEO and know that they buy "time" they themselves would spend otherwise.

That's like asking: "How much does a car cost?" ;)

For example, there are plenty of overseas companies that are willing to work for very little, while an hour on the phone with Aaron Wall will cost you $500

Because SEO is so unregulated and misunderstood it's basically "what your SEO person feels they can get away with."

The SEO field as it stands now reminds me of web design in the early 90s. What was necessary was not clearly understood, nor were the indicators of success and quality. Everyone had "a cousin who knows HTML" who could charge anywhere from $5/page to $150/hr, with the eventual results varying just as wildly. Unqualified people started "design" companies overnight, most of them crap.

I'm not saying I'm some paragon of SEO looking down on everyone else but I've seen far more unprofessional conmen claiming to do it than dedicated, educated people. I wonder if things will ever shake out or if it'll take some sort of Google crash to mirror the effect of the .com bubble bursting.

In SEO you do NOT get what you pay for. I would rather select a plastic surgeon than an seo, at least you can see if a client has saggy tits right?

I have been around, not been well, had a serious illness with my Mother in law for a few months. Back in the saddle again now though.

Glad you like the comment, and apologies to all those with saggy tits :) I mean to say it could be worse, you COULD have paid for them to be that way.Congrats on the 1000 BL

there are contests and results from contests, I would go as far as to say the winner is the best and back out your pricing from there

What makes you believe that the winner of an SEO contest is the best person for doing SEO work. Think it through, perhaps this person focused solely on winning the contest to the exclusion of all else. If they worked 80 hours a week to win that contest. But the second place person only did it in their spare time, and spent 10 hours a week. Who's the best catch?

It's all about ROI. If you don't have the return on investment, everything else is BS.

I have to agree with the other posters. Looking for cheap SEO is not realistic. Finding a person or company that has a strong reputation and proven results with SEO is my suggestion when looking for SEO services.
