Is PageRank really that important?

pagerank has nothing to do with traffic

It is simply a by-product of many other factors (more important factors).

Pagerank is useful as a rough guide only, a snapshot of link popularity.

 

If you sell links or run a directory, its very important. Otherwise, it's just another tool in your webmaster arsenal, and you shouldn't lose any sleep over it.

As what have been mentioned by the above members. PR is important for selling links or the sites. In any case, traffic is the main thing to focus.

If you have high traffic, you can:

a. Sell text links / banners for a good price.
b. Obtain a higher conversion rate for your products / services.
c. Sell the site for a high price.
d. Obtain good results generally with CPA,CPM and CPC ads.

However, a high PR site with low traffic can only do well with text links / site sales (a and c)..

No, just backlinks. They are the only factor in PageRank.

It's not the PR of your site per se that matters, it's the PR of the links pointing to a particular page. This comes into play if you have good deep pages that can act as link bait, and those pages link to other target pages within your site using a specific anchor text. It's not just the resulting PR, it's how you got it.

Definitely. Look, PR isn't all that important technically, but to the vastly uninformed out there (remember, 95% of all people on the internet are technically uninformed), PR can be used as a powerful marketing tool.

"Why should I advertise on your site?" "Because I have a PR of 7 and your site is only a PR 4". "Oh, O.K.!" Many of you might say "So what?" and you'd be correct. But to the PR 4 guy, what he just heard me say is "My site is better than your site". And the people that buy advertising are rarely search engine savvy.

But I've found that a page's PR has little to do with it's search engine position for keywords.

This is what is important. SERPS! Serps mean traffic. And logically traffic means money.

PR is a value which is derived from many factors. However, PR is not likely to make you rich. It might only help you sell a couple of links PR

 

PR is meaningless unless your selling or buying links. It has absolutely NO effect on rankings in Google. Believe me it doesn't. If it did I would have 100 times the rankings I do now. You can easily gain a higher PR by submitting 2-5 articles to 2-5 directories and getting listed in some relevant directories. That will get you started. But again PR is meaningless no matter what anybody tells you.

No. You do not know what meaning it holds, which is not the same thing. The PR of a page does not determine that page's ranking, and the Toolbar PR is out of date, making it harder to judge pages, but those are totally different from saying "PR is meaningless".

How is it that a self proclaimed SEO Expert such as yourself feels comfortable making the jump from "I personally cannot figure out the meaning/value of PageRank" to the sweeping statement of "PR is meaningless"?

Your confusing two absolutely different things. Toolbar PR and PageRank. They are two different things and totally different. The toolbar PR has no effect on rankings what-so-ever and as you said is quite out-of-date.

 

pagrank will not effect your serp result so you will not get visitors from google because of high pr but on the otherwise if you are selling link , you will have so many customer because of high pr .
