I am interested into streaming my webcam over web,how can I do that? Please don't tell me adobe media server, that shit costs 4000$
try red5, it's almost as good as the flash comm server and it's free this is their website: http://osflash.org/red5
this is great news,I have spend quite some time in search of finding good video streaming software and I ended up until now with nothing.I have read a little about red5 and for the moment it sounds really promicing.I mean I don't really care if it's freeware as long as I don't pay 4.000$ as I should pay for adobe media server.this is insane !I downloaded the trial, which has all the features of the full version and the installation kit was 9MB !!!! and when I installed(no internet connection needed) i found about 7 .pdf in the kit.this is outrageous !!!!!! Anyway I am really grateful for your information and I would like to ask you if you have ever worked in red5.I mean I could use some tips and extra information about this.Especially since it requires an UNIX platform since I don't have any at the moment. Kind regards and MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!
well, I have it running on freeBSD it took me a couple of hours to figure out how to get it installed. At first I tested it with Windows, installing it on Windows was very easy really. There is a lot of information available online on how to install it on linux. You need to download the linux version on your linux server. (use wget to download the package). I discovered all this 2 weeks ago, I now have a site running that records and saves webcam and audio feeds. I need to restart the red5 server every other day though, it seems to get stuck after a day or 2. But I'd rather have to restart it every once in a while then paying that outrageous amount of money for a flash comm server. Also, as this is running on java, you will need a java packet installed on your server. I use diablo-jdk1.5.0 but that's for freeBSD I think. Just make sure you have a jdk installed. Then use wget and install red5, then simply do: sh red5.sh & and enjoy
Such a beast would definitely require a VPS or dedicated server. I think that at the moment there are no shared hosting solution for red5. (Big hint for those who look for business idea ).
Yes I have it running on a dedicated server. It's really nice on the load too, so you don't really need a fast/powerful server.
what do you mean you tested it in windows?red5 is open source, only for UNIX platforms, right? can you share this website please? what do you mean this is running on JAVA,i thought this was Flash... I recieved a project next week,to make a videochat website, something like www.sexgirlchat.com .This is my first project that involves video streaming.so discoverclips,if you already instaled red5 and know how it works,is it posible to make a website like www.sexgirlchat.com using red5?I mean not the whole website, just the video streaming(with webcam) aplication.
I used the windows version to do some local testing, a windows installer is available on http://osflash.org/red5/06rc1 PM me and I'll send you the URL The server is running on java, which as far as I understand transfers the incoming video streams to flv (flash) files. I use ffmpeg to make an automatic thumbnail for each flv file, works very well. I then use a flash player which streams the recorded video on my site. If you need help with that site you're building, PM me, my site has similarities as it's a site that records video & audio messages on people's websites. The site you want can run on red5 so you won't need to buy a $4000 license
red5 is good, but alot of glitches still precist. But red5 does more updates than then adobe media server so it's a safe bet
I'm a complete beginner with Red5. I'm interested in using this product for live video chat (Tufat:Flashchat) on my vb forum. What is the experience level required to set this up on my server? I read some of the FAQ and literature on Red5. It feels like I'm in the woods with no hit of getting out. I'm thinking about hiring someone for this installation.
I will be using this for the purpose of "live chat" at my forum. Currently I have flashchat offered by tufat and I want to provide the members the opportunity to run cam from their pc. I will be picking up the virtual jam a/v addon but I'm coming up short on setting up the flash media server/Red5
Champster, please, when you are successfully finished with the "live chat" installation, come back and share some feed. I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm stuck at step one to be honest. Right now, I'm outsourcing this job at vb.org to get everything setup with Red5. After finding someone to perform the setup and everything is running properly, I will indeed report back.
