    $8.95 is pretty normal, and they offer sales all year, so I don't worry about it. Besides, you can always transfer it elsewhere if the $8.95 is really a huge issue for you and you don't come across a sale on renewals or something.

    Hmm 8.95 is pretty normal.. I´m ok with that..

    Cheers!

    They've been around quite a while, although I believe they used to operate under a different name (or maybe they just bought out the old company I'd used), but that was probably at least a year ago now. They're always the first place I check just to see if they're running a sale, b/c when they do, it's usually a good one. :) I've used Yahoo once or twice too, and a few others. Yahoo wasn't bad... they just didn't have anything that particularly impressed me, so I stick to Godaddy for most (just b/c they're already there).

    $2.95 .com domains at hostmysite.com is the best deal I've seen online. It doesn't matter if they renew 2nd year at a standard rate of $8.95, I want to register and resell. I'm concered about security when I register at a registrar that is not within the Top 5.

    1. Someone told me when I register a domain, I can not transfer it (for free!?) away from that registrar firm until the initial 2 months elapse, only change of domain's DNS to a different hosting server can be done. What does it mean?

    2. What happens if I register a domain today, sell it to someone tomorrow, and that someone want to transfer it to somefirm.com away from the firm where I registered it, the person waits the remaining 1 months and 28 days to transfer the doman...

    ...then in the waiting period something happens with that firm where I originally registered the domain, i.e. that firm closes, simply disappears or does not allow the person who bought the domain from me to transfer it away after the 2 months of registration period?

    It would be a situation where I end up being a 'crook' with nothing to blame me for!? Registering and reselling domains is a job I plan to do for a living. Reselling domains concerns me and is a risk because of the initial 2 months after registration at a registrar firm and the waiting period.

    All this I say as I bought a hosting and registered a domain with one firm, the firm offered awful service, I stopped using their hosting and chose hosting with a different firm, but my domain is 'trapped' for 1 month more with them because I registered it a month ago.

    Today I got an offer from buydomains.com (they buy high-profile domains) to buy my domain, when I went to the firm where my domain is, their site was down and I was not able to access domain's account, they are always in some kind of problems. What if I sell the domain to someone, after 1 month waiting period they are not able to transfer the domain to where they want, because the original registrar firm causes them problems, what are my responsibilities and what could I be blamed/charged for?

    p.s. sorry for the longer post

    Yeah, I don't believe you can transfer domains at all for about 60 days (someone else has to confirm that though... I don't register them to transfer, I register to use them). I'm not sure at all if that applies to pushing the domain to another user account with the same registrat - no clue, but I'd assume so. Hopefully someone can clarify.

    Changing the DNS entries means that you can set the domain to be hosted on a server with another company (like I have domains with HostMySite and GoDaddy, but I host with HostGator).

    If you want to go into business buying and selling domains, then it's your responsibility to know the rules going into the business. If that includes a 60 day delay, then don't advertise the domains you register until that point if you're anticipating it being a problem.

    I just reg'ed three domains...thanks for the info...

    p.s. its a bit of a pain to get the nameservers changed...their customer support is helpful but it takes them a while....not my first choice anymore, and probably won't use them after the sale is over...

    You can't transfer any NEW .com registration at any company till the 60 days is over.

    You can PUSH the domain to another user at the same company with some companies (Namecheap-Godaddy for example). When you push the domain you change ownership.

    So DP member-DAYLIGHT if you are looking at flipping some names quickly make sure you can PUSH the domain at that company.

    The 2.95 deal is great if you want to develop some names long term.

    They do have the option to move the domain to another useraccount with them right in the control panel - isn't that "pushing"? Sorry... I don't turnover domains, so I'm not familiar with the process.

    Jenn, this is great news. Thanks for sharing. I am sure they will get tons of names because you posted here :)

    BTW, for those who are interested, I sent them mail asking them:

    Hi,
    I have never used your service, and have a query. If I buy a domain name from you for $2.95, is there something preventing me from transferring it to another registrar? Will there be a fee to transfer away?

    1 hour and 18 minutes later they responded.

    Hello Ajeet
    We do not prevent you from transferring the domain name or charge a fee for you to transfer, but why would you want to transfer the name when we offer hosting plans http://www.hostmysite.com/order.cfm?id=280 that will meet almost any needs and even our domain renewal rates are more completive than many other companies if you would just like to keep the name. Let us know if you have any other questions.

    I think I am satisfied and will be regging close to 60 .coms with them before Feb 28th :)

    I envy you for the chance. I would buy a larger quantity of domains if I had the opportunity. I wrote them asking can I pay via wire/bank transfer, the answer was they only accept credit cards, nothing else, which is a bit odd.

    @S-hhhh
    If you didn't ask that question, I would. Their offer is until the end of February, I don't have a credit card and nothing I can do. If someone would like to help me too, that someone can hopefully pm me.

    @jpmattern
    I enjoy reading your writings and I click on ads when I see them, keep it going and thanks for bringing up this post. Oh and late happy birthday wishes! : )
