How to find parked sites

I have re-check the sites in my directory, and found many sites has parked.

Problem comes, directory is only for quality sites, we should make sure most sites are not dead or switch to another one. I don't think directory listing dead or non-related sites is a good thing.

Up to now, I just know most directory scripts can validate link but they will not know the sites has switched to another kind. Large directory has many editors to check this. I think most of us here run directory only by oneself. when you got more than 5,000 sites in your directory, there would be many sites changed.

So do you think we should consider some way to deal with it.

    Definitely a good point antonio.

If the site has been parked, then there is obviously a redirection.

A method of detecting a HEADER 'redirect' should be devised to sort out the listings and send them into a 'pending' status after a run check.

Ask for that and wait a few months for another release to see if it gets included. Maybe that'll be ample enough time to get it in there.

If you are serious to run a directory, just deleted it. I don't think people would park sites which has been submitted to paid directory. If they do, why we should treat them seriously. And you can add this to your submission guide :)

That's a problem that I noticed when I accepted any pr sites. One of my solution is to accept pr5+ since most of them will not change much and don't think they are willing to lose pr either.

But that's my opinion. I also noticed that they are better with choosing the right categories, writing good titles and description, and other +++.

I can't agree with your solution, many new quality sites would not get pr5.

Many directory are human-edited so we can check them by ourself. Many of these sites would use .info, .be or .us which is cheap or free domain. Some new directory which needs recpr. link, they would switch to another when it got enough recpr. link. Some directory would switch to another site when it got enough traffic like hk0.org which was free pr6 directory before.

Human edited and human rechecked would be the best solution in my opinion :)
