Hi there, I have a question that I was wondering if you could help me with. The question is "How does submitting to directories helps your page rank?" All feedback welcomed! Thanks, Peter Brown
You got to 128 posts and have only just thought to ask that question? Page rank isn't purely based on backlinks (although it really does help). Site content, content frequency and page optimisation all factor into the final PR result. Ultimately though the more backlinks the better...
Somebody asked me this question personally and I could not explain it too them so I figured if I made a post asking the question I could just give them the link Sabian, thanks that solves the question!
well, the q is rather so old. So I'm going to place this nice old link on PR. http://www.iprcom.com/papers/pagerank/ Hope this helps.
Well it not only help in PR but in Rankings to Why? Becouse : Directory submissions -> brings links -> links are a big factor in PR and Rankings that's why it's like a mathematical formula (bleah i hate math )
Website directory is the place where you can find web site of your interest easily because generally in website directories all the links of websites are place in its best possible category. Some time searching some thing in the search engines we found many results many of them some time not related to what you are seeking at that time directories are very useful to eliminated unwanted results. Eliminating unwanted results and find the result you are interested in some time take much more time. Many people prefer search the results in the website directory than search engines. Form last few years people are using website directories as a tool for building external links for their websites. In this regards also website directories are very useful. It is very easy to get external link for your site by submitting your site to website directories. There are thousands of directories are there many of them are free. In my opinion many of directories are not reliable because it is like courtesy page domain is free nothing to start on that domain just start website directories. And when they get something to do with that domain name directory just get disappear. Some time if they get good money for domain name they just sell it out without thinking about links there in their directories. So choosing right directory is very important for the site owners. I can give you some suggestion like www.zihh.com,www.reubmits.com etc... There are many directories which are there in the net from long time but do not have any Google page rank. These types of directories add no value to your site as a back link. So I think page rank is also one of the main factors which site owner need to consider. Thanks & Regards
That really sums up the answer. As sabian said-- the more links the better for PR. But the more links the better also for SERPs. And directories offer those required links which are not often easy to find on related sites.
Don't they say that if you want to rank higher than one of your competitors in the SERPs you need to have roughly 25% more backlinks than the competitor you want to realistically beat or stay ahead of them in the SERPs? Or is a higher percentage? It might even be 50% more links for the bigger strong sites and keywords...
I think this theroy is true if you want to keep your ranking. You can have less links than your competitors and still rank higher, at that point it will depend on the quality of the links you have instead of the amount.
Exactly When I buy links I don't only consider PR but PS as well. My very personal assumption is that a PR5 backlink from a PS4 site is equal to a PR4 backlink form a PS6 site. That is just my personal assumption-nothing else
Directory submissions are very helpful in increasing your pagerank as it provides a lot of one way links.
