One of my sites went from 10,000 to 1800 in two weeks and yet the sites traffic went up. What gives?

One of my sites dropped from yesterday to today from 19,000 to 1,700. No reason to recognize. Page rank didn't change, # of pages didn't change, traffic didn't change.

I've had this before and got no usable answer. Just the usual stuff...

If you lose backlinks .. for no reason you had better take a peek to see if you are losing them due to Google (ban) or if someone has updated your info on there site. example..removed a big link to you.

Take a look around .. because drastic drops means you are in google concern and they do not come back in a few days.. there gone for good.

I had the same thing from me until google finnaly gutted all my links and droped the site. dietdo.com is no more. :(

This is definitely not the case. The system is just not fair. It takes from many and gives to few. Don't know who are the preferred ones but there sure are some.

Well, consider Thomas. that the "system" is free, so there is really no fair or unfair here. While it would be nice to know, certainly there is no requirment that the "secret sauce" be revealed. I can only imagine how that would create cheating.

My only objective was to really find why things changed so much. I've seen it go from 1,500 to 10,500 in a week and now back to 1,800 and the only thing that has changed is we have more traffic than ever before combined with more advertising to the site. Ohh well.

Weight on my main account goes from 5000 one day and 90000 the next, makes no sense whatsoever. I can recalculate the weight and see it go from 9000 to 60000 to 10000 to 95000.....

Since your weight depends a great deal on the google API, and occasionally it returns null results, this is probably the reason.

I've seen the google API time out for whole days at a time, i.e DP cannot get the # of indexed pages, and maybe can't even get PR. It happens, it's a fluctuation, especially when it's downward.

And as to the original question, weight can go down today, and traffic still go up from the DP ads that were shown weeks ago. It takes a while for the SE's to see the ads, index them, revalue your site, move you up in the rankings... etc. Just because DP dropped today doesn't mean your traffic will drop today. You get less advertisement, yes, but the rest will take some time to show.
