I know it's late in the game, but I just have to ask if page rank really is as important as it's made up to be. I have a website that's a couple years old that has numerous pages with PR0 or PR1 that appear in the first top ten Google results for my keyword searches. I've spent alot of time working to optimize the content on my page to the keywords that support it. Everything is sitemapped and submitted as optimally as I possibly can. But PR is still 0 or 1. So how important is PageRank? As a side note, I think a PageRank sub-forum would be helpful.
I think pagerank ...and I might be wrong in this... has to do with the amount of visitors to your pages and how many other sites link to your site. So pagerank shows it has high traffic thus more 'possible' paying customers. So yes, it is important and shows your site has a higher value. That is... if I'm right. I've been wrong before, and I'll be wrong again I'm sure.
Page Rank is still important but its assuming less and less significance in search algorithims. How less significant than over the last few years is hard to say and only Google's, Yahoo's engineers will know.
jimsim, By simply structuring your internal linking properly, it is possible to attain a pagerank of 3 or 4. This said, it is obvious that pagerank has little credibility because no inbound links have contributed to the 3 or 4 pagerank created internally. Pagerank was an undemocratic hype by google. It took off big time, google may not have been where it is today had the hype failed. Consider your internal linking and you can get a green bar for it. But your proper linking for humans will be a better reward for its ease of use to end users.
Not so true actually . For phrase "street racing", which is by the way pretty competitive, I'm ranked on 1st page (6th position) for my site and have only PR4.
Yes, PageRank is very important, but keep in mind that Toolbar PageRank (that displayed on the Google Toolbar) is different from the actual PageRank that Google uses to rate your site.
See, this kind of confirms my thinking as well. I see all this rage and desire to get a high PR. When I check my page ranking using Google Toolbar, I'm at PR0 or 1. (My site doesn't necessarily fit into the link/backlink scenario). But like I said earlier, I'm getting great traffic. With all the PR hype, I thought I was missing out on what could be MORE traffic.
my 2 cents ... page rank is not that important because its not the only thing which judge your site.. alot of other things do .. like page strength, traffic, quality, unique content etc etc. dont worry abt PR, and just think you are doin good with your site and you'll see the results will get better
Whatever your PR is if it gets you excellent position it's high enough Is it 0 or 4 doesn't matter Actually, on during the last PR update one of my sites fell from PR4 to PR3 but since then I get much more sales. I've checked and my competition still has the same PR as before. I'm trying to figure out why it's happening, could be because I did some things to rank much better on MSN.
the fundamentals required to increase PR are important. the pr number itself is not important unless you're selling links or trying to build a core site to get your other sites crawled faster ;-)
It important but not too important. Unless you are planning to sell links from your site of course. --Joe
