I had my website copied today - SO FRUSTRATING!

My website firelead.com was copied today - I wrote about it on my blog there. What have you all done if your site has been copied before in the past?

There's nothing your can do. It happens on a daily basis. Get over it, that's the only thing you can do...

it sucks though...I had never had my site plagiarized so badly before...i do need to get over it...but it's really hard when you spend so much time on something you try to be unique...the worst part is when I brought up the issue to Google, I got no response at all - I faxed and emailed them.

Doesn't it hurt your ranking though for your desired keywords if there is a copy of your site out there? Actually right now because my site is so new, when you search for the term "firelead" in google, I do not come up first - the offender's website does with the cached title tag they left on! idiots!

No, Google makes no difference and does not know who is the real creator...

Check the registrar using whois and contact them about this. They might close the domain, if you have sufficient points....

What I do is secure my work "the poor man's way" in the even that someone copies my site and plans to knock at my door some day saying that I'm using "his" design and threatens with legal action if I don't follow his instructions. Been through this story once, very annoying.

If the clone is not affecting your business in anyway then let it live. Eventually, let people know by placing a note on your site, and on other sites about what the real story is. People will appreciate your effort and you'll get their support, I would not hope for anything else, really.

how do you think we got where we are today?

car makers copied other cars, toy makers copied other toys, clothes makers copied other clothes, site makers been coping other sites. Its been going on for ever. nothing you can really do about it unless you own the rights to it, even than its hard

take the "loss" and move on.. unless its really hurts you

Once again, a copyright issue posted on the wrong forum, this is copywriting and you meant people copying all your website content.

Compare your site against his on Archive.org see if there is anything you can pick up from there to proove that the design is yours and that it has been cloned by the other party.

I have seen this before, Find out who the host is and contact them,

Most hosts we cancel accounts if you have a valid grip

Just contact the host and tell them the story and show them the proof

    Hey, it's gonna be alright.
Do a whois lookup on them from http://www.register.com
Then if you can't find any information, simply ignore it and move on.

Eventually, people will come to your site instead of his, because your site will have much more original daily updated contents.

Hope I was helpful. I know that sucks that you got copied. :(

    FireleadDotCom, hello,

I have experienced your problem once. Well, when I contacted Google and asked for any support in that situation, their position was something like "You'd better go straight to the other person and get them to take down the pages. (Go to the source instead of us.) /stolen pages, they mean/. Once that happens, we can take action to remove the pages in question, or they'll fall out with the next update."

Of course, it's useless to contact a person, who has stolen your own content - he/she is never guilty of anything. So what I did was to contact my host (as it has been already written above), they checked everything and all that based-on-stolen-content website was removed. Unfortunately, with some time passing by, the owner of that website moved it to a new host. The story has not ended yet.

As refers to Google, I am not sure if Google can make a difference between the original and plagiarized version. In my case, the other website had a similar but still slightly different topic from mine, so I can't judge.

Anyway, what I am saying is that it is you who is supposed to be active in this terrible situation of yours. But even then, there is no certainty that the problem will be fixed...

    Good luck! [IMG]

Pat, sorry I posted in the wrong forum. My site was copyrighted and logo trademarked and I thought that was the appropriate forum to discuss.

Mix advertisement and content in such a way the copier finds very difficult to remove your addvertisemnet, let him promote his site and you get the advertisment revenue :D
