Any thoughts on going with phpBB or vBulletin for forums? People who have tried both and prefer one or the other?

    Thanks

Vbulletin is the best forum software there is right now. Invision Power Board is a close second with some things being better than Vbulletin.

phpBB is free but you can't compare it to boards that cost 150$

you get what you pay for

VBulletin is definiatly the best ever forum software. It has 20+ more features than PHPBB. I would reccommend it to any body who is wanting to start a forum.

I've tried both... Vbulletin is less buggy, and more robust. Easier to upgrade also. Phpbb is also very good, especially because it's free..

vbulletin sure is better but phpbb works excellent and is an awesome free script. i'd go with phpbb unless you have some money to buy vbulletin. but of course you could get a hacked version of vbulletin, but that wouldn't be smart for legality issues if your forum ever got big.

PHPBB is good enough, but i use MyBB.

MyBB is like an exact copy of vBulletin, even mods, skins, templates are the same. But i know that vBulletin is probably the most secure forum you can find.

hello, I'm using phpbb. what I'd like to say is that always update it to the latest version as my site was hacked several time. The old version had very serious security holes.

phpbb is simple to use, ok but gets hacked too easily.

vbulletin is a complex beast, but is probably the best you can get so far.

I used to run forums in phpbb a while ago and it was quite notorious for being hacked, so much so that its use declined siginficantly.

What are the features of VBulletin you like over phpbb? I haven't used (coding/admin panel) VB so just wanted to know.
    Thanks :)

Hmm i would say Vbulletin but then again i completed a forum that actually looked like vbulletin that was run on phpbb that also had more functionality that of the default vbulletin installation.

But i would say vbulletin over phpbb as theres more functionality its more stable and of course yes you get more for you money in this case a much more quality assurance script.

So i would say vbulletin over phpbb. Just look at all the top websites. If they have a forum its bound to be run with bulletin.

    Hello

Sorry if I am posting a little off topic.

I have never used vbulletin but I can reccomend a good forum that in my opinion is on par to vbulletin.

    The forum is mybb.

I have used it and it is a good forum script. Easy to install plugins and a great helpful community. And best of all it is completely free to use :)
