How often do you feel the need to redesign your sites? I'm noticing that there are certain looks in web design that date a site quite a bit, and I don't just mean 1990s stuff like spinning mailboxes.

But I've got quite a few sites now, and it takes a while to give each one a proper makeover. I'm interested to know how long a design will typically last on a site before you get bored with it and start again from scratch?

I usually try to redesign my sites about once a year. I know a lot of people who shoot for once a year or every two years.

I guess it all depends on how many projects you have going at once and how easily you get bored with something :p

Once a year :p Or it depends if I miraculously get an idea out of no where and I have to re-design it :) IT also depends on the site, for portfolios.. not so much as my sites that I use adsense on

I usually start planning a redesign as soon as I get bored with the current one.
BUT if site works well and people get used to it's established look and feel, I don't rush to change things as redesigning might be a wrong move. Small layout tweacks never hurt however..

I could not vote in this poll since none of the options are reflecting my position. I would vote for "occasionally, if it is required".

None of the options above, even though I voted less than 6 months.

You would be amazed to know that my main site is under perpetual redesigning :S

I don't redesign my websites. Once it has gotten the look and feel that I want, I don't bother changing it. My time is better spent at advertising the site.

I see what you mean, there's always something to alter so that things tend to evolve gradually. I would probably work that way if I had fewer sites.
