I was part of a private auction at snapnames for the domain name ebqy.com. Needless to say I was outbid by ALOT, and now the bid is at $843.00, and constantly going up. Now as a mispelled Ebay.com domain name do you think this domain is worth this much?? How many people a day actually mistype the name mistaking the Q for the A?? Just want some opinions
No really?? But can you really count on people mistyping it that many times to make your money back in PPC??
some mis-spelled names can go for funny amounts of cash. At the end of the day, it's what someone else thinks the name is worth to them. It don't sound like it gets much traffic, and I'm not sure you could recoup $1000 or so too easily on a mis-spelled name like this, but you never know, and clearly SOMEBODY thinks it's worth that amount!
I personally don't mistype address that much.. I think if you think it's good, buy it, and then put some ppc, and then resale it later once ebay becomes bigger.
I NEVER type ebay in my browser. I go to my favorite and click on ebay. A domain value is what a buyer is ready, willing and able to pay for it. Remember: toyota.com worth $25...
I really find it hard to misspell that A... it actually involves MORE EFFORT to press Q then A ... it's not really a good misspelling. If it was ebsy or something close, that would have been something different. Also, look at this : http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/?keywords=ebqy&country=us compared to this: http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/?keywords=ebay&country=us . That domain isn't really worth a dime as misspelling of ebay , but it is a 4-letter domain name, and that is an advantage.
eBay.com is typed in a few hundred million times a day I bet by people across the world, so the investment for a typo like this will definately be worth it to the right buyer...if they're smart and use PPC templates or SEDO.
I doubt it. If you mistype ebay.com by ebqy.com and see anything else but ebay site, you'll check your spelling right away to get back to ebay. You're not going to click around for other affiliates...
All they have to do is cloak/mask a redirection to their affiliate link and if the people who mispelt it bid on something, wham, that's profit.
That will be the smartest. But you need new ebay people. People who never saw ebay homepage and who can be confused....
Some foreign keyboards are AZERTY compared to english keyboards which are QWERTY Any foreign person going on an US keyboard would do the mispell for sure. Plus, as said earlier, because Q is collapsed to A, it's a common mistake. But for sure, snapnames auctions always go crazy.
The person bidding on EBQY.com might also just think that it would be a cool name for an alternative ebay-esque site. Still a lot to pay. You would also have to be receiving a significant number of clicks from those few misspellings. Interesting that qpple.com automatically redirects though.
