There's a fantastic passage in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy regarding life on other planets. It's times like this I wish my memory was better though so I could quote it to you
well i think theres some form of living beings far far away in this galaxy..its a question if we will ever meet them
How do we know we can see them? Remember, all that we can see is what appears within the 'light' that our eyes and brains can function in. What's to say that aliens are made up of different wave lenghts? Sorry, I am no scientist and so may not be explaining it as I should. The nearest I can get to it is like a dog whistle. If a human blows a dog whistle, they can't hear it but a dog can. What if the life form exits on a different dimention that our senses cannot pick up? Sorry, forgot to say Tiel, thanks for the science to my point.
Well - may be I don't know how many stars exactly have Milky way, or exact number of stars, but at least I spend some time to write that. About the numbers – do you even know how much stars you can see with naked eye? Yes it's Drake's equation, but in Bulgaria its just equation we have to learn in astronomy class (I have master degree in physics). And I doubt here is the place to start real scientific discussion (this one here is short version of 4 hours lecture), a lot more complicated calculations and result which is in the normal statistic error. Ok- that’s not problem I think – every material can be seen on certain conditions. If we look at the string theory – yes it’s possible aliens to be in different dimension (but because the dimensions are 11 by that theory – the chance for seeing real alien is still 2.5x10^17 (if we continue the calculations from my previous post). Thanks for the support.
That's kinda sad actually. That they make you learn a formula that means nothing, but what you want it to mean. That is not science. You can say from a statistical standpoint that the odds of us being alone are infinitesimal (sp?), but that, again, isn't science. It's a guess. People believe in aliens because they want to think that there is someone more advanced than us out there. Same reason people believe in ghosts, God, or other things. It's all part of the same condition. In reality, if there are aliens out there, I bet they are as messed up as we are. Any sufficiently advanced civilization isn't going to come to fruition peacefully and in harmony. That is for ants, not sentient lifeforms.
Some of you need to start using your common sense, if aliens do exist (and I believe that they do) why should they have contacted us by now? We haven't even sent man to mars yet, these aliens might just be microorganisms, and, even if they are intelligent beings like us, they probably don't have the ability to travel millions of light years. And, even if they are capable of traveling from solar system to solar system, what are the chances of them finding us?
Two words: Anal probes. Anal probing drives them here. No place in the galaxy can aliens use their anal probes. Its as if they invented anal probes, and thought...hmm...what insignificant lifeform can we stick these in?
I reckon there's some other life forms for sure, there must have been some alien being in those flying saucers I have seen!
yeah i believe aliens exist. small microscopic organisms living deep beneath the surface of other planets.
I think if there's is so-called aliens among us, they're probably disguised as humans; I certainly don't think it would be anything too exciting. But in all honesty I don't believe in aliens, ghosts etc; I like to keep an open mind certainly, but until anything is proven, I'll stick to logic.
i very welll think that they do exist. Look at our solar system ... We haven't explore our solar system yet, and its just a little corner of milky way galaxy. So think about how many planets like earth exist in the Milky Way... and than Milky way is just one galaxy and there are millions of galaxies... So my friend Alien Do EXIST - they might be contacting us but we don't know yet... maybe they are too far advance... who knows
HAHAHA Nice Pun! I don't believe Aliens exist. They are just a figment of our imagination and are overhyped, people make up stories to come on television and thats it. But I have seen quite some UFO's... one even putting out light to the ground, but it might have just been something else... IT
Its fun to think about these things though. Just to help you think outside the box, and open up your minds. WHAT IF: Everything we can possibly percieve (the universe in its grand forte), is just one greater beings "ant farm", so to speak. Lets say this creature has just started out and one little part of his ant farm is blossuming (earth), though he has much room to go. See the problem is, he has 5 other friends that each have their own "ant farm", and they have gotten almost 5 to 6 planets blossuming a piece. He feels sad, as "earth" seems to be destroying itself while his friends "ant farms" are fullfilling and expanding greatly. We could never see this though because all we would be able to do is see our universe; we would need to find a way out of our own ant farm and into another to see these other beings. ************* Just some random thinking!! OPEN YOUR MINDS PEOPLE!
Hey let me do some random thinking as well... what if... the whole universe is just a tiny cell inside an EXTREMELY extra large world's creature? IT
In the vastness of space, I think we would be pretty vain to think that we are the only intelligent life form. But, speaking of the vastness of space,... Another question has to be, is there a limit to space? If one were able to travel through space in a striaght line where would they end up? Can space just go on forever and ever? To where? Some have suggested that you woud end up back where you started, but that would suggest that space is a shaped like a globe like the suns and the planets. If that were true,... what is on the outside of this globe? Boggles my mind.
the x-files poses a nice theory in its plot, that aliens landed here well before us, and inoculated us with their genes, so in effect, we are all aliens already. Unknowingly, we are aliens hunting aliens in the sky. just like Originally Posted by compostannie View Post When we sent men to the moon those men were aliens while they were there, so yes. that's basically the premise of the series, but hey, i might have forgotten it really.. don't mind me
