I was thinking about getting satalite internet. Anyone use it or know anything about it? Is it good/bad fast/slow Thanks
As I'm familiar with that technology it depends very much on your hardware and weather conditions. Also it’s very expensive and not as good as one form optical cord. I don’t know what your location is, your needs and current type of connection, but I hardly will recommend that kind of Internet. If you haven’t very big outgoing traffic I’ll recommend you the ADSL (usually upload is 1/4 form download speed), or DSL (upload and download are with same speed), they are same as T1. If you give some details: where are you, what are you doing, does money matter… I think I can help you choose best option.
I am from canada nova scotia. And where I live now sense i moved i cant get cable or dsl or anything. Only thing i can get is 56k dialup witch i am on now and can get statlite. Money is not a prob but i want it cause it will be faster for browsing and download/upload sense I am a webmaster and make a living online. Thanks for the help
I have sattelite internet here in Europe and its very fast. Its the only internet that dosen't have a downloading limit. I like it . - Prilep
Isn't there a thing that with satellite you can only get data and cannot send it ? You will still be sending via 56k phone line ..... at least that is how it worked couple of years ago ... maybe the problem is now solved some way NOT
Thanks for the info guys, I think i am going to give it a try. I am sure anything is better then 56K Dialup lol.
DSL and cable were not available when I first moved into my house. I had the DirecWay two-way satellite service for a year. It was expensive and slow but fairly reliable. If anyone needs a dish, all you have to do is climb up to my roof and uninstall it....AND IT'S YOUR'S!!!
A friend of mine who lived in the mountains evaluated it for one of his clients and was not excited with it. He faced two issues. 1. Weather related issues (rain and snow would interrupt his Internet connection). 2. Also latency issue.
my sis has satelite its slower then my DSL i guess it depends what part of the country ur in and what company you go with.
I think it's fast all over world except my country. Also you get a different IP here, right now i'm using the Dial up connection and my IP is syria. When i'm using the Satellite connection it says my IP is Romania. It's like I live in two different countries
Well – it seems as satellite is for you. Especially when there isn’t any other options than dial-up, and you need the speed. Nice – where you live?
I use Direcway... its as fast as DSL or cable for surfing and such but when its really sunny or when its very very cloudy/raining/snowing its slow and often cuts out for a while during those times. It is WAY better than dialup IMO.
ya this is what i also heard the downlink is via satellite but uplink is via 56k phone line but i think two way (uplink/downlink) is also possible just via satellite but costs more
There is option to have satelite access with download/upload, but it's a lot more expensive. You can always try to convince your neighbour to share the costs and connection. I used that some years ago when I couldn't afford ADSL by my own. Can you be more specific - I'm looking for a dish (if it's big enough i can use it as shild from rain and sunlught (as my uncle did with his $500 satelite dish ).
