Sure they will survive and many quality directories will consolidate and move away from the majority The sector requires a downsizing of all the QBC Directories But in general terms the future is bright after a shakeout of the QBC's
I have to agree 100%! There is even room for more sources of good quality info. The way to benefit is through a change in mindset though. To start a directory takes more committment than just slapping something up and seeing how it goes.
Plus this excellent comment from Rod will be the definitive post of this thread Absolutely 1000000000000000000000% Correct don't slap up a site and hope for what? A wipeout in 2/3 months when you cannot even afford the 5 Bucks Hosting Top Top Post Rod_Purnell
i think it's definitely going to be around for a long while. directories are becoming part of the internet as the number of part-time and hobbyists webmasters increase exponentially!
Yes the directory future is very bright due to many great established directories already there and still more coming up.. They are ultimate and easy source for getting cheap one-way links
What defines quality? Content gets my vote. A directory of links is more like a link farm than a resourceful web portal. The only content in most directories are the descriptions by the links. We all know those are copied and pasted so there is no originality. This leads me to believe that the duplicate content penalty will end up discounting most directories. My2c
Apart from the established ones - general web directories are dead ... it's the quality niche directories which are the way of the future But creating any directory takes ALOT of hard work and lots of commitment - both in time and money. It is definitely a longer term investment.
Soon! on some “Bloody Sunday†(or Black Monday) most human scrapers directories (all duplicated content) that account for 95% of the market will be slaughtered, and then you will have around 30 directories that are worth submitting, the rest probably will only have the homepage cached. BTW this is my 2,000 post I think I made it worth… When the slaughter happens you can point to the 2,000 post of ! Ask ! LOL
Agreed, maybe we should start a directory grave yard with a list of all the has been directories. The question is will any of them be able to rise from the dead in 3 days
- Duplicated content on 300 other sites - No links to inside pages, only to homepage - Unrelated links It’s to easy to spot the low quality directories, I think google doesn’t do it now, because will probably decrease quality of search results, but probably they will do it someday, let’s wait. Internet will probably be a better place with this Human Scrapers directories banned.
This is what i was afraid about. Arent we too much dependent on google and PR? They can ban directories anytime.
Well the way i see it..... I think that if anything they will "devalue" them further as time goes on and more advanced techniques will be used to the linking algo. You can already see in google webmasters that they are now tracking the backlinks and show you the who ,how ,about you with ease. thx malcolm
Utilizing the same script, template and data base repeatedly is slowly creating a target, and with each new directory launch, the bulls-eye is increasing in size. The Future of Directories
Personally I think it should be illegal for some people to own directories. I mean, they go out and start 50 of the crappiest directories on the planet, instead of 1 nice one. Not only do those people clog the tubes even more, but they give other directory owners a bad name.
yip agreed, I have 28 that im constantly working on to make them unique and thier own idividual identity as it should be. I dont believe in the 1 button and add all these sites into the database as i see this as just 1 database feeding xx number of pages. We wont risk the chance that google come along and say thay are all the same with the same info in each domain attached. We have every intention off setting new standards in the industry by providing our users with only the best thx malcolm
Most of people include me here are devoting their time and money for their directories. So far as now, I have delined dozen of paid submissions. Thousands of directories on the net are too much. Let TIME determine who will be winners. Google is BOSS!
