This guy was told that "SEO is a more seedy and dirty profession than being a prostitute"

Personally I think it is a small minority that give SEO a bad name, read the full story here: SEO vs prostitution

    It is crazy!

I think that people fear things they don't understand.

I don't agree with this part:

"It doesn’t matter how much money you have, or how good your SEO expert claims to be, it is simply impossible to guarantee any form of rankings in the search engines!"

If you have enough money and a good SEO you can get great rankings. Your SEO has to be smart though...

Angelus - It is possible to get good rankings, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to guarantee them.

Example. I create 1000 new sites tomorrow, I give you 1 billion dollars and a team of the best SEOs in the world. Could you Guarantee 100% that all 1000 sites would rank top 3 for a decent term? what about with 1 millions sites? 1 billion?

Google is not perfect, therefore it doesn't matter how good you are or how much money you have, glitches happen, you cannot 100% guarantee anything. The internet may not even exist tomorrow, so how can you 100% guarantee it?

    Ohhhhh hell......

I have this conversation about twice a week. I usually say that there are a ton of "used car salesmen" out there. I just received a spam mail from a SEO company telling me I would have #1 rankings in 48 hours.

They neglected to say that it would be through PPC....

Sometimes I wonder why I am in this business. I guess it's to help people that have a really good product or service. It's just sad that the bad SEO companies have more money to advertise.

if the results would be gauranteed for forever, most of us would be jobless. It's good that results keeps on changing.

And i respect a prostitute more than the person who said so "SEO is a more seedy and dirty profession than being a prostitute" cause a prositute would be for a living and not for cheap publicity.

Although it might be foolish for a company to guarantee rankings it isn't such a bad idea.

If I guarantee that I will get a top 10 ranking within 3 months and that the ranking will stay for another year then that gives the client piece of mind.

If I fail to achieve the ranking then the client gets a full of partial refund.

The key is not to promise more than you know you can deliver. SEO is such a mystery to most people that its good to be able to reassure your clients.

I don't think anyone can guarantee rankings. And I choose my clients carefully. I take on clients that have a legitimate business.

I get calls and emails everyday from people that have a 5 or 10 page website and want to rank high for competitive keywords.....they usually want me to give them a lower quote than some guy in India that promised them number 1 rankings for anywhere from $50 to $500. I've also done a lot of cleanup work from a previous SEO

I can 99% guarantee it... 1 billion dollars? Hello? Sitewide from google, yahoo, msn, microsoft or adobe.com = PR 10 and probably high rankings... And even so, who cares about rankings? Wouldnt you rather have a viagra link on google.com than at #1 for "viagra"?

    Qouted to agree.

Seriously, SEOs inability to guaranty a site's ranking is due to the fact the SEO specialists just rely on the public informations about a search engine. That is mainly the challege SEO specialists are facing all of their lives(if SEO still be a career in the future). One can only guaranty a high rank to a site if he knows the exact algorithm of the SE. I never had encountered such people! LOL!
