In my experience, simple is better.

You would probably get more bang for your buck spending the money optimizing current sites with Optimost than starting with a brand new unproven design.

you could post a 1000 dollar reward for a design contest.. that's a hefty reward so you should get some great product for it. then you could spend 5 thousand dollars on some really great links across the web and the remaining 4 thousand could be to start up your own affiliate program and get that running :)

Throw 1k to web design, coding and usability testing. 6k to making contents (articles, forums, tools, etc). 3k to buying links for a year.

With 10K usd I'd make at least 10 content rich sites. And there will be some money left for candies ;)

Many corporate sites suck in more than 10k just for developing the site alone. On the other hand, many blogs with simple design could cost just $0, and you could then write blog posts that cost virtually nothing. But if you have 10k to spend on a site, 1k should go to the site design and coding. You can get a decent coded template for $700 at sitepoint's design contest, then $300 is left for a few years license of paid Content Management System.

6k goes to contents. You can get somebody to write quality article for $10/100 words, so a typical article costs around 10 bucks, or 300 articles for 3k. What site content covers are not just articles but tools. You should pay programmers to code something for your visitors. Free tools call them back to visit regularly. Ok, DP has this forum and the ad exchange. Google has the search. Yahoo has the mail and finance chart. They are nothing without the tools.

3k for buying links for a year. To get started fast with SE traffic, you should buy links. I can't say enough, coz links give free traffic to my sites. A typical quality link (or a group of side-wide links) costs around $100/month. You start off with 5 links then add one link every week until you hit the budget.

This is what I do if my budget is only 10k. This strategy never fails me.

$10,000 is a lot of money. You only need to spend small part of it on design.

I personally would purchase some more complete sites, there have been a couple massive auction threads lately: here and here. You might want to buy some of those sites and invest more in developing them further.

Invest the 10k in PPC, landing page development and affiliate marketing. Even hire an advisor for $1k and go from there...

With 10k you can simply buy a site making 20-30$ per day and i think its good for you , no need to start from the beginning :)

you can spend just $1000 in site creation (may be 2000 pages)which is content rich... and bid in adwords with remaining amount...with suitable keywords..i think it will work

pffft if you have 10k to spend on a website i think you already won at life and you dont need anymore money! :p inless your building a site for a personal business then i see but i mean if you got that much money to spend on a website and you want to make money. Your better off investing in stock or something.

I would live from the 10K while working hard on developing a new larger site. But also as others mentioned above buying existing/older site that makes 20-30 bucks daily already would certainly be another way to go if its content suited you.
