    Hi,

I've decided to work seriously on my site and try to reach it's maximum potential. civ-online.com is my site, and I want it to be one of the most popular text-based games out there - ambitious, I know.

I'm therefore seeking some help from you gurus here at DP. I've read tutorials and the basics, but I need advice regarding the best place to start.

    So far I've:

    - Placed strategic meta tags,
    - Used words in the content relating to the meta tags - but not too many times,
    - Purchased directory submission to get more links and indexed pages,

    What's next?

I appreciate all feedback and I thank you for your time :)

    Lee.

Get more links for free from www.directorycritic.com. This site lists lots of different directories to choose from. Find the best relivent catgory section and use an anchor text link that you think that people will search in google i.e. 'Civilization Online' or 'Play Civilization Online'. Try not to get too spammy though as google is cracking down on link bombs.

You can also use this tool. https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
To find out what popular keywords are being searched for your type of website. Another good popular keyword one is. http://www.iwebtool.com/keyword_lookup/

A Good thing to check your meta as well is this tool. http://www.widexl.com/remote/search-engines/metatag-analyzer.html

another good thing to do is search for your type of website on google and analise the page that is top to see what they are doing and to also, check how many backlinks that website has by using this tool. http://www.backlinkwatch.com/ and then try and link from them sites as well.

Hope this will help you make a start.

Make sure that you use H1, H2 and H3 tags with keyword phrases in strategic places

Thanks likely, that's definitely good advice. A couple days ago I posted in 2 other mmorpg forums and saw a clear boost in users :D

DSD: That's interesting. Why do headers have such an effect?

You get a chance to tell search engines what subject your page is about - your subject should be your keywords

Ah, that makes sense. My site doesn't have any headers at the moment, I'll have to find a place to put some.

Don't forget how important your title tag is. Your title should not be the same on every page, make sure you have your targeted keyphrase in your title tag.

    Fix your title....

Get rid of the :: and make it descriptive with keywords first.

Add a blog if possible to your site to create pages.

    Make your links text based.

    Build links like crazy......

Thanks SmokeDog, I'll do that now :)

I think I'll use the "about" page for most of the SEO like a blog would. That way I can legitimately get away with concentrating on SEO.
