I honestly have nothing against quality directories that list sites for mature audiences; but, I would like to find some quality directories that are more family friendly. Let me share a few of my personal definitions about what I think makes a quality family-friendly directory... 1. The directory does not have category creep where sites are listed where they obviously don't belong. 2. If I do a search for the word breast, the listings will only be for Cancer-related topics or how to cook chicken. (I'm so tired of all the enlargement, shrinkage, and beautifying scammy sites.) 3. A certain part of the male anatomy is not listed anywhere. 4. There are no listings for "hot" people from exotic locations. I am not some sort of prude - even porn has it's place, as long as it isn't the kiddie variety. After seeing a site that I have been marketing as family-friendly and for all audiences listed among many porn, enhancement, and other sex-related sites on one directory's Top Sites page (of the 2 pages of top links - only 2 or 3 were not scammy or sex-related); I have been trying to wade through the many announcements and directory lists looking for directories that I would classify as family friendly. So, please I'd love to hear from those of you who fit my criteria - free or paid, niche or general. Please don't bother listing your site if it is not family-friendly, don't waste your time and mine. The list will become part of a blog article, an article on Help For Web Beginners, and if appropriate a new section that will be part of Crafty Tips when it gets back online. Thank you.
My PR 5 site: www.cbgred.com is a quality family friendly directory, no adult ,no gambling no spam. If you try to search the term "family friendly directory", google ranks it 2nd. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=family+friendly+directory&btnG=Google+Search
I noticed you did not mention gambling, is that part of the criteria? What about the word "sexy" (clothes description) popping up for a "sex" search? If the 2 above are ok, ErectADirectory is a family friendly directory that focuses on having great content. We are not just a collection of links like most other directories! Feel free to add us to your collection of family safe links. We do not and will not have a kids only section, as we feel that would take too much moderation. IMHO, It would be irresponsible for any directory owner to include a section like this as it would be no problem for someone to get one site accepted then change the content from kid's toys to kiddie porn.
I hadn't honestly thought about gambling one way or the other. Guess, I just haven't run into it as much as the other. I agree that a kiddie category could probably get quickly bait and switched. My primary focus is finding sites that I wouldn't mind if a potential writing client found one of my sites on as well as a place that would be safe for children and families looking for craft-related listings. My plan is to make the list part of a how-to that explains directory submission, a section of my own directory that might be places for craft-related sites to promote their sites, as well as a blog post on a blog about the business of crafts. Thank you to those of you who have already answered, you might be seeing some submissions from me fairly shortly as well as some new backlinks.
Ok, it’s fair I also have this category Adult Toys , but I don’t know if you can really be 100%, as you start to get more listings. At least I don’t have any enlarge your XXX sites. Also what is considered "family friend" will be different from people/country/religion. Also interesting all big established directories (DMOZ, Yahoo, BOTW…) are not family friendly.
My Recreation and Entertainment directory at www.whenwegetthere.com is family friendly...I think. It does have a category for Bars (including adult clubs). In addition, Casinos and Poker Rooms. You make the call on the "family friendly" criteria. I also have a restaurant directory at www.whenwedine.com. Completely family friendly. Good luck.
We maintain a quality standard that meets your criteria in Forplex Business Directory Hope you will add our Directory to your list Thanks
I have 2 niche ones that are family-friendly: http://www.abarcy.co.uk - Entertainment http://www.stiffupperlist.co.uk - British only My definition of family-friendly is anything I wouldn't mind showing to a young child (although of course it's not necessarily targetted at a young audience). That means no gambling, no adult, no tobacco, and nothing illegal such as warez.
Good luck with your search You will probably have to search a bit but you will find something im sure if you look hard enough. thx malcolm
Mine are all family friendly. I don't like to allow any adult, pharmacy, gambling, new-age, even tobacco/alcohol related sites.
