for me domainname.in sounds abrupt but in domains are on this rise so you should consider .in
but i would like to point that google india's address is google.co.in because .co.in came out years before in.
.in is costly than .co.in but you should use .in because .in is todays trend in Indian business.

The Indian domain market hasn't really developed, but I'd suggest to go for the co.in

    Perfect :)
I would also do that, as .in would help you in serps and .co.in would be hard for your forum members to remember too, so redirect the .co.in version to the .in one.

I agree with those that say get both, and use .in as your main and redirect the .co.in to .in

co.in is a better option , atleast i think so ,its more to do with usage than anything else , since ive hardly come across some .in's , co.in's are more common so easier to remember.

.In registery is monitored by the Government, so its safer. Also because of the lesser dots in your domain name, it'll be easier to remember by your users.

.in will also ensure better search engine placement than .co.in

    I suggest you buy both.

Refer to the link in my sig for details.

I prefer short and catchy domains. Therefore i would prefer an .in site.
