Will buying sponsored blog posts harm your sites SERPs and PR?

I'm specifically referring to buying sponsored posts from networks like Payperpost.

    Thanks!

I'm not sure how the search engines would know?

I would say the opposite - that is the new trend that will be very difficult for Google to "automatically" determine. It is pretty obvious to humans - but a bit more difficult for an algorithm to figure this out.

Hmm.. I think it'll be very easy for search engines to determine if a post is sponsored if it comes from Payperpost.

All payperpost blog posts nowadays seem to need to include a small payperpost button which links back to payperpost.

Why use a service like that when there are so many people on Link sales that are selling blogposts that are impossible for the search engines to detect?

I don't really think all blog posts are undetectable .. this claim was made by V7N when they launched their contextual blog posts program and Matt Cutts shot them down.

Spend some time reading Matt's blog post and all the many comments if you're interested to learn more about how Google regards sponsored posts.

Matt Cutts likes to talk out of his ass. Of course he's going to tell you Google is all knowing but unless you publish who sells what and when they cannot figure out it's a paid post. They don't know anything you don't show them.

They not only make you include a linkback button to PPP but they also make you disclose at end of post whether it a sponsored or paid post. This has killed PPP.

Do you know if they did this due to new legislation or just due to pressure from the whining blogtards that cry about it?

Not really sure where it came from but I was in the middle of getting compensated for a few of my posts and approval for payment didn't go through until I disclosed paid post on links.

I want to say I saw proposed legislation requiring disclaimers on sponsored links but I don't remember now. Something else to look up I suppose.

This person here had a real burning desire to shoot down paid posters http://www.45n5.com/ and now he rescinds his comments and offers an apology to some really well known paid blogger sites.

Are you referring to "blogger" blogs or people that have blogs...?

    It was the FTC

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/11/AR2006121101389.html

I completely agree that whilst, yes they can force paid contributors from sites such as PayPerPost to disclose their intent, there are also many other ways of hiring people to post blog posts and even forum posts and purchasing links out there that Google simply cannot know which are paid and which are not.

Another reason why I started the paidposting.org website. No rules LOL

I apologized only for my "desire to shoot down paid posters", I wasn't discussing the ethics or legality of paid posting.

How do you suppose Google can detect a paid link?
