is DMOZ professional ???

i have submitted over and over several sites
    and not once aproved
and what is more chocking is that i decided to keep track of several pages to observe the evolution of these pages for 6 month
(screenprint and ...) and not to my surprsise i noticed that the pages (categories) i am observing haven't changed for over 6 month (and maybe years)
so i just wonder after applying over and over to become an editor and always getting refusal ... why they don't accept editors if the existing ones are just sleeping , seriously , many became editors just to add their sites
and stop any competing site of submitting his link to DMOZ ....
the question that should be asked ...
    is DMOZ professional ????

Good question. SOME OF THEM ARE but not all. Just move on without a listing there are lots of things to be done with your site than just worry to get it listed in DMOZ.

It depends on what you mean by professional. The editing is done by unpaid volunteers and many categories do not have volunteers to edit them.

Higher level category editors can edit in the lower level categories but there is a limit to how much one editor can do in the time he/she can donate to editing.

So many categories may go for long periods without any sites being added or removed.

This does not make them unprofessional, just understaffed.

I can't say why you were not selected as an editor. I applied once and was selected from that one application. I just read their guidelines on how to become an editor and made sure I complied with them.

Maybe I was lucky that day and the person reviewing my application liked the sites that I submitted as examples of what I would do as an editor. I no longer edit so I can’t comment on the current situation as to being accepted as an editor.

earhost, read the guidelines and the category description for the category you want to edit and apply again. Many editors were turned down on their first try. Unless they specifically asked you not to reapply, just improve your application and try again. :)

Many of DMOZs categories have not been active for years, mostly because the lack of responsible editors... DMOZ is a crap shoot and there is no rhyme or reason to their acceptance standards... a PR2 site less than 1 year old will get in on one subject while a 5 year old site with a PR6 and thousands of inbound links will not get accepted.

One thing you need to learn is while DMOZ is a valuable link to get, it is something out of your control. Just submit and move on otherwise you will go nuts!

Very useful and interesting complain. You'd better go to their resource-zone to post this and let the DMOZ editors what the others think of them!

Could you publish your application and summarise (don't think it would be right to publish a private email in full) their rejection messsage?

Without that baseline data, how can we know if they were acting appropriately or not?

Yes, the editor application process is still down but it will be back. In the meantime, you can read the guidelines and category descriptions thoroughly and prepare a new application and you'll be good to go as soon as that is fixed.

    It will be fixed. :)

I guess after they accepted me they broke the mold, knowing none would ever be found again that would be my equal. :D

Actually I think this is related to that server crash they experienced but you would need to ask one of the active editors.

Meta editors and Admins have the responsibility of accepting new editors.

We can't evaluate new editor applications at the moment and neither can we create new editor accounts. That's why the editor application process has been disabled.

    No.

I have had two sites listed. Both within a reasonablish amount of time (a month or two). One was a blog, the other a news site.
