What Did People Tell You When You Started In the Online Business?

For every webmaster there is a story, because many people still think the Interent is for chatting and to have fun. So when you decide to become a webmaster, what did people tell you?

Well My family and friends thinks I'm a little kid who will grow up one day and take over my family's business. They think that this is a stupid business and that one day i will feel sorry for even trying. Everyday my father tells me when will you stop playing around and come work with me.

But what they don't understand is the more the say it, the more it drives me to become better and work harder. I never give up, and I never back down.

So what are your stories DP ers? What happened when you began in the online business. And for some people what happened after you proved yourself. How does it feel to win in the online business?

My story is completely different. My father was always an engineer. A geek before it was cool to be a geek. He shelled out a huge wad of cash for one of the first Macs when they first came out, and we'd had the Apple II varieties for years before that. There were always computers in our house the entire time I was growing up and I'm 30-ish now.

So unlike folks younger than me, that grew up with computers in their house and take it for granted, I was one of the few kids with a computer. When I told my friends I had a computer, their usual response was - "Why?" Though I tried to hide being a geek, my interest in computers and technology was nurtured every step of the way.

I fell into ecommerce on accident. I actually was showing up for a job interview thinking it was for a HARDWARE technician. Instead, MonsterCommerce was looking for technicians for their ecommerce software and were willing to train. SO, I said 'why not' and was there for 3 and a half years. I learned the software easily enough and picked up web development --HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, ASP, etc.-- as I went along.

I'm in school now and I have a job, but most of my money comes from working on websites. When I tell people this they always say I'm lying and that it's a scam or some other made up crap. But damn did it feel good to show off my first $3,000 check from Adsense.

After sitting in front of my pc for hours everyday, My father kept telling turn off the computer, you will go blind, you will get cancer, lol I just ignored his comments and now I am making money online while he makes money being an electrician(Even though that job is pretty cool). Now my father does not say anything because he can see my cash :).

People who are investing now, in the early years of online business will gain in the long-time, just like people who buy property.

The online business is still in it's infancy. Look at the NYT, they know it is the future.

When I first begun I heard things like "what a waste of time" and "there's no money in that!". These things just egged me on to continue with persistence. I am glad I did because now I have a successful business that is growing each day :)

Well? There are a great number of DP members showing me a lot of respect for which I am very grateful.

As far as the ones who originally said those things. Have not seen them in years :D I think they are all still working for the man and working hard too. Gotta respect that though. It's not easy earning small dollars for big work. I was there not that long ago.
