A couple of things, remember you'll recieve a default install of whm, with no extra security measures, I won't bore you with details, but read every single sentence carefull during the setup of your nameservers and server security anything your not sure of copy and paste into google, they'll be a million records for it somewhere, and above all don't panic if your domains don't resolve 10 minutes after you setup, it takes time.

Also, before there are any accounts at all on it, I would suggest upgrading to php5, and possibly mysql5 if you're feeling brave.

Before you even make it live, test the whole installation by accessing your site using pur IP address.
congratulations on moving to dedicated server.

I would suggest you contact some affordable server management companies to manage your server if you have no prior experience. Server security and administration requires some skill....

If it's Cpanel server then verify "Update Config " in WHM for stable version of Cpanel .

Bottom line is CHECK EVERYTHING before using it. Make sure you installed it all correctly and if you are not sure about something google it. Read every last work of the installation before pressing things.

This is exactly why I would never get an unmanaged server.

My hats off to you guys who can stay on top of all this stuff but I would go crazy.

that's a nice move... remember when I first moved to DS :) don't get into XEON stuff right away, start small and grow steadily.

use managemybox. they have been great to me. I actually have no clue on what dedicated server is all about . so I use the managed service. I suggest you do too, as it is more safer for us, newbies.
