Images next to ads, what's the latest?

I haven't used my account in over a year so I'm not up on the latest rules. Can you have images next your ads if you have a line or border between them?

    Yea, images are allowed:

    http://www.pixel2life.com/

Its also legal to target highest paying ad categories, like pixel2life is doing with investments and loans ;) :D

I wonder if that's really a fact^. I heard they'll ban you for untargetted traffic. And even though images next to ads are allowed, they 'are not encouraged', as they told me.

They aren't allowed, I've received emails warning me to remove images next to ads or else I would be banned. Wasn't banned though since I listened to them and removed them. However, I don't think Yahoo will contact you about it unless someone reports you.

I think inferno3387 is being facetious. From what I understand, YPN has never allowed this practice, and Adsense has since followed suit now.

Correct. And I really liked how straight up Inferno is being. Good stuff man, stuff like this needs to be pointed out.

Ok, so the consensus is that it's a NO?

In the context that you are asking, I believe the answer is a No.

However, if are you clearly separating nearby images with a colored border to show good faith that your not trying to trick people, then I believe that changes things as it lets people know they are separate and that they are just there to fill space or w/e.

I would stay away from images next to ads. Not one pay per click or search site seems to allow it so why get banned.

I totally agree, don't use images next to ads.

If in doubt about any thing, just email yahoo and ask them :)

With yahoo, showing relevant images next to the ads is not as easy as with Google, but in both cases they are not allowed and i'm sure you can understand why. But, it sure does help out CTR :)

Yeah, I have heard that Images next to ads are against YPN TOS, but Google and I haven't asked YPN (yet, i should though) has said that backgrounds are OK. Take a look at adClustr for some great ad background examples.

This is a good example of a "NO-NO".
If visitors can be mislead, thinking one picture left to the ad actually represent the ad, it's agains the ToS. If you have ONE picture beside a 336x280 ad, then you can't mislead since they is no link between the picture and the ad...
Regarding background, it is ok if the background is for the entire ad size. Google actually offer christmas and halloween background. However again, if your 'background' shows 4 images beside 4 ads, it is not OK, even if it is a background...

Just have YPN approve it. A buddy of mine was unsure and they checked over his layout and approved it. His layout wasn't like that picture but it was another gray area.

the problem with ypn approval is you get it from one person and then you get the warning letter from another person that you are violating tos. the lack of consistency in these matters is a problem.

luckily, ypn doesnt just terminate for this issue. they send out warning letters first. personally, if i think its "grey" area, i do it anyway. if and when i get a warning letter, i'll be more than happy to make whatever changes necessary to remain compliant.

The "view >>" makes it even worse (very very misleading). Do you think google just makes exceptions for those "elite" sites that bring in lots of clicks and traffics? Because this isn't the only site I've seen the pics besides their ads.. (that are popular).

Heh. Been just over a week and inferno removed it.

In all honesty though, you CAN pull it off.
You can pull off an amazing $1.50 CPC, with a 20-30% CTR.
Buy cheap traffic in bulk, and you can be netting thousands of dollars a day.

...my yahoo accounts were banned due to low converting traffic, and am owed thousands. It was still worth it.
