Backlinks from different IPs vs same IPs

I've been doing some link selling and the responses were quite good. I do notice some purchasers mentioned about some of my domains having the same IP address, which is true because I only use one hosting company that I know is reliable.

My question is, does it really matter to have 1 domain = 1 IP, and another domain to be hosted by different company (to get different IP)? Apparently, despite having PR5 on 6 domains, some are interested with only 2 domains that has different IP addresses.

Any response or related discussion on this from the technical perspective? Thanks!

I dont have a link but John Scott at V7N did some testing on this awhile back and his conclusions were its better for SEO purposes to have links on seperate IPs. It helps out even more to have links on seperate class C IPs also.

The goal would be to on seperate class C IPs but if you are talking about all your sites on different class C IPs then its very expensive and most the time not worth it.

It will be better (from the SEO point of view) if you have different locations/IPs for your each site of your site...

    Thanks to both of you.

What is Class C IPs? Apparently these things are new to me. Yes, I do prefer having one hosting company because my website(s) will grow and grow with more domain names, etc. It is a pain to maintain 6 different login IDs and passwords, let alone to monitor hosting expiry date, renewal payments, etc.

Anyway, I have achieved PR5 for all these sites, whether or not they are on similar or different IP addresses. But they seem to be stuck at PR5 for almost 1 1/2 years now, with no indication of moving further up.

    Heres the breakdown of classes.

    AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD

So you would want the CCC to be different.

And that is exactly why it may be an advantage to have multiple class C IPs - the barrier to entry. Google is thinking - "Heck, it is easy to throw 6 websites up at the same IP, but it is more difficult to maintain 6 hosting accounts for the same websites." Therefore (just guessing now) - those 6 sites across multiple IPs might be more effective for SEO.

Ya , Two reason why duplicate backlink IPs are not favoured by any search engines:

    • Anyone can buy domains and linkback to one's site to gain link weight. Duplicate IPs are the best indication of such linking policy.

    • Backlinks are given weight by SEs as they signify the importance of website's content withink its niche. BY linking to other similar sites, other relevant sites, one actually highlights your neighbourhood which ideally should be a well connected network targeting similar niche. Now, buying links from all over teh place with duplicate IPs with no relevance to your site's content doesn't help in all this.
