    Well done you.
Many years ago we had a shop. My husband caught a young man trying to steal a picture, and made a citizens arrest before calling the police. The man said he wanted the picture for his mother's birthday.
I was horrified that my husband, alone in the shop, should do this. He could have been attacked by the man or worse. Keeping the picture would not have been worth the risk of loosing him.

I certainly wouldn't try it in this day and age...can't put anything past anyone these days...I bet some elementary kids are better armed than some security guards :(

    Glad your husband wasn't harmed!

Thank you timsdd, so am I.

I imagine it's just a UK thing pangea. Here's something I found about it.

"In the UK, any member of the public has the power to make an arrest (under section 24 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984). In reality, collaring someone bang to rights isn't always going to persuade a criminal to come quietly, but you are still entitled to give it a go under the following circumstances:

If you witness a crime of any kind taking place - from a bag snatch to an art heist. Should you witness someone in the act of breaking the law, you are entitled to intervene.

If you know someone is guilty of a crime - eg your housemate admits that he buried the landlord under the patio."

But why didn't you just tackle him and take your mail? This is why I spend so many hours each week training with mixed martial arts. So that when an opportunity like that presents itself, I can give the guy what his father should have given him more of growing up.

Thoughts of violence don't really occur when I see someone else's car getting broken into. That and the same line of thought happened as the last time -- making a bunch of noise would probably only serve to wake my kids up.

You're right. I've been wanting to get a surveillance system for quite a while now, but the wiring project has me holding off. I think next time I get a big check I'm gonna have to do it. At the very least it might keep these pricks away from my driveway.
