Webalizer v AWstats

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me why Webilizer is showing 3+ times the traffic than AWstats for the same site? Which one is correct? I was thinking that the site was doing OK until I installed AWstats and now I just do not have a clue how it is doing.

What do you mean with "3 times the traffic" ? Are you talking bandwidth, hits, pages, visitors or unique visitors ?

In general, AWStats figures are more realistic, as the lists of robots and other informations are better updated. Also, as Webaliser and AWStats do not use the same definitions for all these terms (bandwidth, hits, pages, visitors or unique visitors), it is difficult to compare.

perhaps each software is querying results at different times thus showing different results?

Well it's kinda complicated to compare the 2. First of all, Webalizer is a Server-based Log Reader/Analysis application, while AWStats is a Client-based Traffic Analysis Application. No matter what you do, their results won't be the same, and both are not 100% accurate. As there are factors in the discrepancy of the result, like Javascript usage, Hit counts coming from Non-HTML or PHP files... etc.

On my opinion, use both to compare their results and from it draft your own Average Result. It's like getting a first and second opinion from a Doctor. ;)

    Yep!

Not true. Both are server based log reader analysis applications.

I think awstats is more accurate than webalizer.

Oh, I'm sorry about this one. I have mistaken AWStats with Statcounter

Yes both are Server-based Log reader and analyzers. Both are quite good, but when it comes to updates and additional plug-in components, AWstats has a good array of it. :)

Thank you for all your advice. Sorry for the delay but I have been away. By what I have read it seems that I should look at the AWStats for a more acurate result.
