If the global diamond business has come so far, it is thanks to Gujaratis (people of Gujarat, India), who converted adversity into opportunity by processing discarded roughs of very small sizes into tittle sparklers in the 1970’sâ€. If nine out of every 10 rough diamonds in the world passes through India, then you can be sure that eight of them would have been touched by Gujarati hands. Gujarati diamantaires control almost 70% of the approximately $20 billion global diamond business by value terms and 80-85% in volume terms.
