Bot submissions. Are you getting it?

Last few days there were many submissions on my free directory, but there were less visitors to the directory.

Captcha was not enabled on the directory as the host is not having support for that functionality. I realised that it was automated submissions and I did some quick changes into the PHPLD code to block autmated submissions.

My question is , do you all keep captcha on? If not ON, are you getting heavy submissions?

capta is worthless! Period... They just go right through as the spammer gets under the code.. it doesnt even help so its truelly worthless.

For 40 bucks anon has the spam filter mod that will eliminate 99.9% off garbage sites and spam submittions for phpld.

Contact him and stop fooling around with these clowns...

    thx

It seems to help for me, i'm sure results varies on what directory submission services is linking to your directory. The more of them recommend your directories the more you will get hit.

We're no longer experiencing a problem with auto submitted spam. There was an average of 30 submissions awaiting me every morning, and random submissions throughout the day.

No captcha, no registration, no problem.

Interesting. Maybe I should upgrade too. I have been seeing these spam submissions lately.

Well , I edited my submit.php and put 3-4 lines of code ......

    No bot submissions now.......

Basically I wrote a code to check whether the referring page is from same site (i.e bots will not have a referring page / it will not be from same site). I gave an exemption for googlebot .

    Thats it..

That's why I love eSyndicat, It's a multiple-step process... makes it harder to code an auto-submission tool if you have to spoof cookies and posted variables over multiple pages in your submission process. I'm not saying it's spam-proof though ;)
