Is anyone using Dotster.com VPS hosting ? Is like 30$ but requires 1 year upfront payment. I am interested if anyone is working with them?
Beside Layeredtech, hivelocity and dramhost, what do you use for dedicated proxy server hosting !?

thanks and good luck to all !

Not only does everyone have a guide about building proxies, I bet there has been a few orders for new servers as well! In just a couple of days, with virtually zero promotion anyone who has a decent box and good B/W can earn some good $

I just put up 1 proxy on my current server, and after 2 days went and got another server - I want to run more proxy's!

I note that nearly every proxy network has several domains and some even have a topsite. So, I decided to be a tad different and have a proxy directory (feel free to submit your sites!).

That seems a big contradiction to everything I have learned.
In economy there is a simple rule:

You can start a business and have great profits.
    Those great profits attract competition.
    Profits drop to average.

So if everyone is making proxy sites, how is it possible that you still make money?
You can't all have good rankings, and traffic isn't endless.

Izual, there is an endless need for proxies because school and work administrators slowly catch on to one and ban it after awhile, and than that school or work network than can use another domain.

Yep, Mubin is right. That is why many people have 100s of domains.

The one thing NOT to do, is buy 100 and release the names on a page or something. Let them out slowly, e.g 5 a day, or 50 a month etc. So they don't all get blocked in one day.

I have about 5+ servers now, and 1 server with cPanel DNS only. The DNS only handles the DNS for all my servers, so it takes the load off them. It's more efficient compared to having 5 servers with 5 separate installations of named running.

3 Different sites this time. 100 of them are still being fixed, another 100 are showing "Socks 5 Proxy" and the rest are mine and Tanna's.

    Layeredtech, or softlayer.

Layeredtech is cheaper, but softlayer's control area is much much better.

Are there any free hosting sites that allow proxies? Probably not, and if so, the bandwidth limits and junk are probably too low, but it would be nice.

How exactly does a proxy site work? I know what they do, and I've used them before, but how exactly would one go about making one? Is it just a script or something like that, or are there lots of things involved?

cbb2: Setting up a proxy site is easy. It's just free a cgi or PHP script. What is stopping me from starting one is that I have no idea about how to manage a dedicated/VPS server (and the fact that it wud cost $30+/month).

I am only familiar w/ shared hosting (FTP, cpanel, phpMyAdmin, SSH etc.) :(

Sohan, mubin or others: Is there a host from which I can buy dedicated/VPS on a monthly basis? So I can try for a month and see if I can figure it out.

I don't know what's the different between DS/VPS and shared hosting when managing them :D

It's easy to play around :)

Nestrer: Meaning, a dedicated/VPS server provides a GUI (like a cPanel) or are we damned to command line?

The key to success in this market is not to be scared to spend $100 upfront on a dedicated server. You're going to need it, and if you do everything right, you'll be able to pay it off pretty quickly and then sell your site(s) for a profit. Don't worry about buying VPS, just go straight to a dedicated server.
