Tried to delete my thread from the other forum but wasn't able to - thought this forum would be more appropriate.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hi everyone,

I have re-designed my site recently, but have just come across some browser compatibility issues. My main issue is the fact that if the screen size is decreased, their is huge scroll bars and it looks really ugly - yet if increased, the site becomes almost too tiny to see. I hadn't checked the site in different screen resolutions and was working with 1152 * 864 pixel resolution, now when I change to 800 * 600 or anything like that, the site looks far too big.

Is their a way to change the site so that it simply changes to fit the screen the person is using - rather than making it so large, or so tiny that the person can't view it properly? I simply want the design to fill the same amount of black space on every resolution.

Here is my web design: http://www.melbourneconcierge.com.au/index3.html

I'm happy to pay someone to help me out with this if they can produce what I am after - I'm not sure if it possible though. Any help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers, Rob.

One option would be using liquid designs. If you set all containers on the page to have widths defined in percents, they become completely based on the viewport, the layout will move in and out when you resize your browser window, and your problem is solved.

Second option - use separate CSS sets for different screen resolutions.

Thanks for the reply - so is Liquid still an option for me now that I have gone ahead and pretty much completed the design of the site, I don't want to have to re-design the site completely.

Liquid will probably force some redesign well since its layout elements will differ from a fixed one.
You might have to adjust the header, footer. Probably set the main content block to liquid width, while keeping the side blocks fixed if that's acceptable, and easier..

Thanks again for the reply - I've been looking into it a bit more - and really the site doesn't look too bad unless I go beyond 800 * 600 pixel resolutions, I don't mind having a little bit of scrolling beyond this resolution because there aren't many users fitting this category.

However, what I would like is to get rid of scrolling for 1024 * 768 users - so is the only option for me to change the actual height of the tables, or can I use liquid just to change the bottom margins for this resolution?

Could you tell me how much it would generally cost to have a programmer help with setting up the liquid elements I require?

Cheers and thanks again for your help,
    Rob.

You may PM me the website URL so I can take a look and estimate a cost for the modifications, if you please. I'll be around..
