Ok, new change on the results, at least for me. 1º www.ewebpages.org 2º ask-dir.com 3º www.gii.in Trincas just whent to 14 page probably triggered some kind of filter.
I'm seeing the same thing. The site either tripped a filter, or tried to do some kind of 301 from other sites. That really sucks for him/her. It is also possible that it may just be a set back, the site could fly back to the top in just a few days.
I dont know how to do some kind of 301 from other site. Now many people will say many things. I am ready to accept them.
This is really bad to see you blow away to 14 page. Hope you get back and finish on the 5 first places. Any idea why this as happened?
I am also looking for the answer. To me the reason MAYBE too many backlinks within a very short period of time. I dont think I will get back the top position, since the time period is very short. So, I am out of the contest. Wish you all the best.
I thought I would let everyone know now so that if it happens people will not say that I cheated in order to win. I have placed directorycontest.com in my title tag just see what kind of difference it will make in my rankings. I have a theroy and the only way to test it is to try it now while people are still competing. Please do not slam me for this it may not even work but I want to find out. If anyone wants to know what my theory is then just ask and I will give the answer.
banless, the only theory I can come up with is that it is common knowledge to put your main keywords in your title if you want to rank well for that term? If you have some other theory I would love to hear it, feel free to PM it if you don't want to make it public. But I must say, unless you are doing that for every listing on your web site then it is grounds for Blogmaster to kick you out, no offence like but it is on page seo. Speaking of theories, I have one of my own regarding why Trincas suddenly dropped out of the top spot. This entry is currently in 31st place according to my Google search a few mins ago. Anyway, my theory is because the site never changes. He only appears to have 11 websites listed in total and lets not forget, Google likes fresh content. If he hasn't added any sites for a while then I would guess Google dropped him for that. If you look at ewebpages.com or ask-dir.com they have a lot of sites listed and are probably adding them daily. Just my tuppence worth...
Yeah I agree with you, I have started adding links, but its too late. And also I have build too many backlinks (lol...) , its okay, I will be a stronger contender next time.
I am aware that I may be disqualified for this but that is ok. My theory is this. The sites at the top right now are there for two reasons. 1) the page is 100% relevent to the search term. 2) All links pointing at those pages are also 100% relevant to the search term. It is very difficult to beat any site regardless of how many links you have pointing at your page when the sites listed have this kind of relevance. This contest was suppose to be about which directory provides the most value to sites listed. How many directories do you know that point 1,000's of links at the detail pages listed in them. But let me make this clear, I am not trying to take away the value of the directories currently winning the contest, those directories are without question very powerful directories and all are worthy of a submission. My hat goes off to those directories, for they have done a great job with link building and doing everything in there power to win this contest and therefore they are the winners. My point is this, detail pages have a huge advantage in this contest. Sure I could have pointed tons of links at my detail page as well, but as the rules say "do not do something that you would not do for other sites listed in the directory" which is why I chose to go with my category page. When the contest first started romow was blowing everyone away, the reason is because he already had tons of links pointing at his web directories page which is what one should be doing anyway. But as the contest went on he started to slip because those that had detail pages started getting lots of links. My theroy is this, if a site has good on page seo with the right anchor text links pointing at that page then the chances are those site will rank higher than the rest of the sites regardless of how many links the page has pointing at it. So I am going to test this theroy to see if it is true. I have over 100,000 links pointing at my page so if links are the only thing that matters then I should be winning this contest. Again, I am not trying to take away from what others have done, this is just a way for me to test an seo theroy, I could be totaly wrong about this and the site may not move at all, it may even take a big drop we'll see in the next fews days if I am right or wrong.
Sorry but I fail to see your objective here, your theory is not really a theory but rather common knowledge (at least as far as I am aware). This is why, in my opinion Blogmaster made it quite clear no on page SEO was allowed. Yes fine, your prepared to be removed from the competition, but for what? Testing a theory that has already been proved? I mean your currently in 6th place and stand a chance of winning some prizes and your going to just throw that away for nothing.
I totally agree with Banless...As details pages shows more info about site with custom meta tags so it is easy to rank if you point links to details page whereas web directory category have other listings aswell! Saad
Hold on ... I thought you couldn't do any off page optimization I mean, someone with a lot of money could buy good quality backlinks to the details pages on their directory … I think this totally defeats the purpose of what this contest was designed to show? It wasn’t designed to show which site owners have the most money and recourse, I thought this content was designed to show (with NO added backlinks or on page optimization apart from the standard for that directory) which directory was the best for SERP results on a particular keyword ??? Tell me if I am wrong PLEASE
Then the directory with high pagerank like PR7, PR8 will win, so things are same, So at the end will win.
Yes of course. I have no problem with directory owners getting good links to their directories to increase their PR. That's normal. But what I do have a problem with are directory owners getting links back to the details page of the directorycontest.com link in their directory. This should be banned as it does not show a true representation about how all links in that directory are treated which means the results of this contest will be meaningless. IMHO people that do specified backlink building for the directorycontest.com link should be banned from this contest.
Geraldm, have you not seen half of the signatures in this thread with 'DirectoryContest.com' pointing to various entries in the competition? It is being allowed purely because it is impossible to police. What is to stop me creating such links and pointing them to your entry to get you banned? And no, I am not saying I would do that, but rather that is why the rule can not be implemented.
