Hi, (Long Post & Intro) Well I have been a long time reader of Digital Point Forums but have never really posted here. But I thought I give heads up to all those people who is starting out. Some background, I actually began 2 years ago with my one website...and till this day I still only have one site...well 2, if you include my new blog! In reality this site I only work on it maybe once every few months as I get burst of energy here there. However in the last month, one of the burst of energy, I began to re-engineer, apply SEO, write alot of content and created more interactively for my site. And in 1 month it tripled my income per month. It is not alot of money but at this stage it is my only income as I am between jobs. Some days I make 20$, and some days 4$. I invest maybe 140$ a year and in return I get nearly 2500$ now what is it 1500+% return. My main point is, becoming a Web Developer/Content writer or making money online is a tough industry. But I believe the key attributes you must have to become one is 1. Perseverance - When time is tough, Google Algo change! Who cares, if your site is good, people will come back and the engines will come back. 2. Patience - It will come, like any job you start from the bottom and work your way up. Who knows when it will come, maybe 10 days or 2 years. 3. Discipline - Need to treat it like a job or similar, and the best thing is it doesnt necessary have to be 9-5 or 5 days a week. You can do it 3 days or 2 days and you control the time. But discipline to put in the hours. Many of my friends envy my situation, but I tell you it is hard when it is far easy to find a full job and get pay 120K a year. And with bills coming out of your ass it is very scary sometimes. But I realise the one thing, I am claiming back my life and time, I can be away for a week or 10 and I can still get that deposit each month. So I decided to spend alot of my time developing new sites and just doing it full time. The one thing I believe the struggle for many of us is you miss the social time with Colleagues, someone to bounce ideas, however these forums are great support but not the same. Cheers MonkeyBoo
You say you're a long time reader, but your join date is January 2007?? Anyway, well done! Perhaps you could provide a few details on exactly what you did? kumiko xo
Very good points. Id have to agree with you. Anyone with a lack of motivation and perseverance will definately struggle. Great to see another Aussie on DP
very well said. there is also this particular point : this is very true too and not much talked about around here. i suspect many among us webmasters are spending way too much time indoor alone. going out regularly meeting friends and new people and seeing what's out of the screen and changing a bit the ideas and letting the body breath should be added to the discipline. good luck monkeyboo on your sites, seems like you're on the right track
Things I did to improve my site included 1. Change of navigation of the site :- I presented more articles at the home page, i.e. snippets to get people interested reading. 2. Played with Ad-Styles. Colors, I have added like a rainbow ie, random as compare to blending and has worked for me. 3. More content. More detail blurbs, keep people interested. 4. More user interaction, user comments. 5. More pictures 6. Site Maps - though been using it for a while 7. Google Analytical - also used it for a while. Great way to get keywords and see what people and what areas of the site ppl are most attracted to. Things I did to make the site more automated. My site is Database driven, well nearly, in a perfect world I would done that years ago, but not much thought of it was done. However content is still manually written but loaded into DB via SQL. The site basically runs it self. Google loves new and good content and the best way is other users review. When people mention about ranking, I use to think it was a good thing, but not sure anymore...my rank actually drop but site increase in traffic and revenue...so who knows what is the deal there.
Good point MonkeyBoo. About creating more websites, I think you should keep focusing on one website. At least, that's what I think b/c having many websites will simply distract you instead of making you more focused on success.
great post, I am working on sites for quite a long time to.. not earning much.. only 50 cents a day.. I want to get it up soon
I think you also need some good luck and the ability to spot a good niche and exploit it to the max before someone else takes over or competes.
