232 Clicks - $15.74 a waste of time? Time to try something new?

I run a music fan site for a very popular rock band. I've used adsense with it since day one. Very recently my earnings have dropped so low, that finding the incentive to carry on using adsense with this specific site is becoming questionnable with me now.

Today for example, my sites traffic was peaking due to a new video release by the band, as a result I got 232 clicks, but a lousy $15.74 for it.

I've tried blacklisting MFA advertisers and advertisers I suspect could be low paying, but it made little difference. I suppose the advertisers for my niche are just low paying?

I've experimented with an itunes affiliation specifically for the band my sites about via commission junction, it generated plenty of clicks but no sales, so I scrapped it. I've also tried the amazon affiliation, selling cd's etc specific to the band, but it looks like none of my users are the type to spend money.

Are there any other streams of income someone can suggest I try? Bearing in mind the focus of my website. I don't want to have to rely solely on adsense for this site as well as future websites I start.

    Thanks for your time.

Sorry but what's the problem? You can't find a reasonable alternative, you are earning $15+ per day and not happy. Whilst your click/dollar ratio is poor, your earnings aren't bad. £15/day = $450/month, not bad IMHO.

Your problem is your niche, its low paying. Why not try and develop another site in another niche that pays better whilst keeping your current site?

Try adding some content on your pages that uses words that are higher paying.

Do some research and re-write your content and use emphasis like bolding or H1 tags.

Did you read my post? Today was a peak in traffic. This comes everytime theres a big news update relating to the band - thats not often. So this is NOT my earnings per day unfortunately. Typical "normal" days are anything from $0.50-$2.00 but never higher.

You could try chitika.com and advertise iPod's and other MP3 players. Clicks for those may complement your revenue.

    Plus, follow what ScottFish said.

    Hello,

I've heard good news about AdBrite.com, they seem to be quite good in delivering a good service. I've heard some say they switched from AdSense to AdBrite because they got better payments. Sorry to hear about your low earnings. ;) Unique content is always esential and good keywords can help also.

I think it's a fair earning for that amount of clicks because of your niche.

You can try other alternatives/additions to adsense such as selling text links, display music-related affiliate banners (probably from CJ), chitika...

your earnings per click are understandably ver low.becoz of yours being music site there aren't many high paying ads.You obviously need to add more content to your site.
Eg:-since you said you wer having a music site,i presume you provide downloads of songs also.so include keywords like music instruments, places where your band performs, etc.

just in case you want a list of high paying keywords, here is the link

Why don't you try affiliate marketing? Use some cj or clixgalore ou azoogleads, or many other alternatives for affiliate marketing. If you do it right, affiliate marketing can bring alot more that adsense do.

CJ honestly sucks (unless you have 10000+ visitors daily)..people click and go away and dont buy anything..i guess you will be better off without it..atleast you wont loose those potential clickers

When you say add keywords, are these the keywords in the meta tags, or just keywords in the general content of the site? Should I use the adsense tags to make google focus on certain areas of my site?

    Thanks for the help everyone.

no google adsense doesn't consider keywords in meta tags.actually meta tags is for search engine purposes. You will be better off trying section targetting as it helps a lot.

if its a band in the teen area maby add a ring tone affiliate via azoogle or something?

ringtone banners, ringtones links....use the bands ring tones on your site ect ect...

teens wont usually buy products as this demographic is not big on spenindg their own cash in this area via browsing on your site yet they may place their mobile number in and pay a few cents - bucks for some ring tons and you can make a ok amount off this lead.

Sorry, when you get your $0.50 - $2.00 how many clicks are you getting?

It would appear that your content (and therefore your keywords) are low paying ones. Could you write content that is connected to the band and your site but uses different keywords?

The good news is that your site is being clicked on, that is a start. Now you need to maximise the epc of the ads served to your site.

Are there areas of your site you can exploit? For example - do any of the band members have Tattoo's? Can you do an area about the Tattoo's thus generating adsense ads for Tattoo's?

Do the band have any hobbies (other than sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll!!)? Do they drives fast cars, motor bikes etc?

Its amaizing how peole want to know about others, if the lead singer rides an Orange County Chopper - whilst the fans maybe can't afford one they are curious about them, they will click links to these ads.

    Just a thought.

Just switch to affiliates for income, adsense is starting to suck for most sites.
