Is there any value in putting keywords in the meta description tag for the SERPs? Right now most of my pages contain the same general description, but I was thinking of changing them to be more specific for the content on each page.
Probably yes, who know. But the most important is the title, write a very descriptive and good, keyword rich title for each page.
Would it be okay if the description matches the title for the page or should the description be more detailed?
I would write a description tag that will entice a user to click-thru, since many times the description tag is used as the snippet under your title in the SERPs. Think of it as ad copy.
You'd better use different meta description tag for each page, and the description shall be like a summary of that page. Try to put the most important keywords and repeat once in the description tag for each page. Remember google will search in title, description, domain, page content for the keywords.
