[WTS] Windows Vista (PR5) - $2,300/Mth - Since 2005 - DMOZ

Discussion in 'Sites' started by tolkein, Jan 30, 2007.

  1. #1
I'm in the process of selling off my websites to focus on local online ventures and my SEO consultancy. Didn't plan to sell this one yet but I had to switch servers today because of increased traffic, so I thought I might as well see if anyone wants to buy it.

Also, I've realized from experience that it's going to be harder for me to sell a website if the earnings grow too big.

    1. Introduction
This website has been online since Sep 10 2005 and the domain name (registered immediately when product editions was announced) is based on the most powerful edition of Windows Vista - VistaUltimate[dot]com

The logic is that since Windows Vista Ultimate is positioned for high-end PC users, gamers and enthusiasts, the site has great potential in terms of marketing value.

Unfortunately, I'm kept busy with my consultancy work and have not had the time to fully develop the site, adding new pages only once or twice a month.

I've done a lot of SEO work (naturally) and the site has listings in Wikipedia and DMOZ to name a few.

    2. Basic Numbers
    Pagerank: 5
    Alexa: 84,304 (today)
    Link Popularity: 8,744 (MarketLeap)

    3. Monthly Traffic
Jan - 135,685 visitors (up to Jan 29th)
    Dec - 106,072 visitors
    Nov - 95,151 visitors
    Oct -74,500 visitors

    4. Traffic Source
    Direct - 37%
    Search Engines - 50%
    Links - 12.7%
**search engine traffic came from 6,451 different search strings

    5. Some Rankings on Google
    windows vista - #51
    windows vista ultimate - #3
    windows vista review - #31
    windows vista downloads - #34
windows vista wallpapers - #1 (Google Image)
    windows vista screensavers - #2
    windows vista tips - #10
    windows vista gaming - #1
    premium ready - #4
    ultimate extras - #11

    6. Top 5 Countries (In Order)
United States, European Union, Australia, Great Britain, Canada

    7. Adsense Earnings
    Jan - $813.35 (up to Jan 30th)
    Dec - $747.59
    Nov - $663.86
    Oct - $578.96

    8. Affiliate Earnings
Put up Amazon affiliate links for Windows Vista pre-order this month but unfortunately, did not use a seperate tracking ID. Orders are shared with another site (totally Adwords-driven) and after spending US$340 for the other website plus unknown referrals from VistaUltimate[dot]com, I got:

    - Windows Vista/Office 2007 orders totalling $17,092 (up to Jan 29th)
    - This translates into $1,111 in commission
    - Net profit of $771 after deducting Adwords ad spend

    9. Other Earnings
Due to neglect, I did not actively sell banner spots on the site. Had some earnings from Linkshare for Dell computers too.

    10. Valuations
Windows Vista was finally launched on midnight of January 30th and hence, VistaUltimate[dot]com is only starting to show it's true value - obvious from the last 3-day traffic:

    Jan 28th - 6,383 unique visitors
    Jan 29th - 8,294 unique visitors
    Jan 30th - 8,951 unique visitors (partial)

    ...and Adsense earnings:

    Jan 28th - $40.21
    Jan 29th - $45.45
    Jan 30th - $69.19

Hence, I'm valuating my monthly earnings at $1,500 from Adsense (using avg. $50/day) and $800 from Amazon, putting the total at $2,300 per month.

So if anyone wants to make an offer, I'm looking at a range of $15,000 to $30,000. Proof of stats is available but PM me only if you're a SERIOUS buyer with ready funds. I can take Paypal, Escrow or direct bank transfer - fee split 50:50 with seller.

    Thanks for reading.

No, the forum is a totally seperate website and is unmonetized. I won't put it up for sale because I know without earnings, I'm going to get ridiculously low offers.

No, because "vista ultimate" is not a Microsoft trademark - there's no "windows" in it.

Let me know what else you need to know and I'll answer them here cos I've nothing to hide. ;)

Received a $20,000 offer via PM for both the website and forum - I declined.

    Here's why:

    1. Even using the standard 12x valuations would make VistaUltimate[dot]com worth $27,600.

    2. The forum currently has 4,616 members and 31,557 posts. Traffic for the last 3 days were:
    Jan 28th – 5,217 visitors
    Jan 29th – 6,975 visitors
    Jan 30th – 11,407 visitors

FYI, the forum has been adding over 100 members/day for the last 2 days and spiked on Jan 30th with 2,570 active users in 30 minutes.

Also, it's listed in Yahoo! Directory, and I've spent lots of money on SEO, marketing, skins, a perpetual IPS forum license, etc. The forum currently ranks #1 on Google for both "vista forum" and "windows vista forum".

So if you want both, I'll consider offers of at least $30,000.

Otherwise, you can have VistaUltimate.com for $20,000 and I'll throw in the 2 websites I use for my Amazon affiliate sales for free.

Then we can work on a cross-marketing agreement, e.g. promotion and banner sales, and stuff like giving you priority if I should sell the forum in the future.

As mentioned, I had to switch servers because of the traffic increase. So maybe you need to clear your DNS cache because the links are all working correctly for me. Follow the steps below to clear your cache:

    - close all your browsers
    - go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
    - type "ipconfig /flushdns" (without the quotes)
    - hit enter and exit

Hope that helps - let me know if it doesn't.

Thanks, I had tried that, but it didn't work. I then tried another computer using a different DNS and it did work. I checked opendns, and all of their servers still had your old IP in the cache (must have a lengthy ttl on your records). I forced a cache refresh and all of their servers picked up your new ip. (You are welcome. :) )

    Thanks pikespeakhiker. :)
Just updated the stats in Post #14 above.

Using the most conservative of TODAY'S estimates, i.e. $50/day Adsense and $30/day Amazon commission, it works out to $28,800/year.

Buying at $26,000 gives you an ROI of under 11 months and access to 21,000 unique visitors/day! I've not put any valuations on the forum so you're getting that for free.

And how much in-dept knowledge would you say is needed to run the site ?

Last I read, it was ok to have images next to the ads as long as they're not aligned, and confusing to the visitors. Hence, I opted to use 3 images for 120x240 ads so that they'll never be aligned.

Besides, my CTR is quite normal at under 3%. Only thing I noticed are that the average earnings/click is one of the highest among all my sites and I expect this to improve as more advertisers compete to bid on them.

Btw, I just updated the stats on Post #14 again.
