I can't believe what I'm seeing here. I'm glad you pointed it out to me. After only 5 mins I'm hooked on the programme already. Best not comment any further other than to say it is extremely worrying and food for thought.

"When in Rome do as the Romans" is an expression that springs to mind. In the UK laws are made by politicians who are fairly elected to Parliament by their peers. If they don't perform they don't get re-elected. That's the way it's been since the days of Cromwell and it has worked pretty well so far. Laws are written in statute for everyone to obey - otherwise there'd be anarchy across the nation. They are not written, can never be written, by any religion that represents only a small minority. That's my take on things. Could get heated this one, so I'll retreat now. There's a tendancy in some quarters to brand commonsense as racism because it's the trendy bandwagon to jump on.

I'm watching the program, and honestly, though I could see some of the stuff taken out of context, not enough of it. It's just... plain old SHOCKING.

It's interesting to note that this group is called a hard line sub-group. Similar to some jewish or Christian Fundamentalist movements.

I hope that's not the smell of moral equivalence?

*shrugs* You're the only person I've heard use the term GTech. You tell me.

I'm saying that I'm horrified by this, but am glad that there are muslim scholars decrying this particular branch of the religion. I just hope that this branch will wither, while more tolerant ones take it's place.

Most likely there are some excuses. I'm just wondering who will be the first to completely ignore the sources and dive right in for the "all" card. Sweeping it "all" under the carpet because not "all" muslims believe this way, of which no one has said "all" do.

Someone will do it. That much is a certainty.

*shrugs* Okay. So in your opinion it's moral equivalence. *thumbs up*

Anyway. Yes, there are -some- extremists. -Some- Muslims are ignoring secular law and do not feel obliged to follow it.

*glances to the guy next to me, who drove for 8 years without a license. Not a Muslim, but still...*

Some Muslims in Britan have performed acts of terrorism, such as the attack on the underground.

I am of the opinion that this lawlessness and this dangerous extremism needs to be confronted. I am also of the opinion that a focused effort is more effective, and has less fall out, than verbally abusing, or otherwise accosting people on the basis of them being Muslim.

    ^^From:
Sounds familiar. Funny how that sort of political view is double-edged...destroying ones culture and tayloring to a problem.

I amount European problems to overly tolerant philosophies. Unless it's right in their face, it's not a problem. And whom are they to say their culture has been more successful than those that come-in!? That's the apparent view, which I disagree with.

I tend to think my ancestors came to America because they thought that where they came from sucked, and it was better here. I hate the mentality of 'my countries' better....well, then fuck Joe-blow, why don't you go back to your country and take your failed social structure with you. I think it's common-sense not to let-in the wack-jobs, but when will Europe or America learn that you have to set a high standard to get a high standard....?

We're so determined to be idealistic, when will we be practical...?

A little sarcastic, yes, and a little non-sarcastic too because you are actually taking a position. A very narrow and carefully crafted position, but none-the-less, a position.

Nothing to get your panties in a wad over :)

*chuckles* well I don't have any 'panties' per say, so I can't really get them in a wad.

I tend to take a narrow position, and slowly expand it as I gain more data and knowledge.

I try to take data and knowledge the foundations of my political positions. The more I have, the wider I can safely build.

I agree. The more Europe tailors to the problem, the more demands are going to be placed upon them to do so. Honestly, I think it's too late for Europe. Especially France and the UK. I just hope America and especially the politicians are watching closely what is taking place.

Actually, I can respect that. Seeing it in a different light, it does make sense. I've done the same thing with "global warming" myself.

    In ways I agree.

I think France's form of government exacerbate the problem. If the economy didn't suck-ass over there, then some of these kids would be a little bit less likely to end-up the way they do. Poverty and bad idealogy are a terrible mix. But I'm not going to blame terrorism entirely on poverty, as many of the terrorists are well-off individuals, and their brain's aren't functioning correctly.

If you have a head-ache buddy, take an advil, not C-4.
