What can happen?

Few days ago me and friend had our 19th b-day party at our four neighbor's place: They have a slightly larger dorm room. Two of the neighbors didn't go but forgot to lock their rooms and apparently one of them got their ipod "stolen". Now they want to file a police report threatened us by saying they have photos of us drinking. Since this is a privately owned dorm what can happen?

First you need to look up on yoru dorm rules?

    Are you allowed to drink?

Just because you have been drinking doesnt mean that you stole the ipod.

The worst that can happen is you will probably get a fine by the university or college campus you are staying at.

You wont incur any liability for the ipod. Plus the general house insurance will cover theft, although they will have to file a police report for the theft and its likely that the police will ask around.

I honestly wouldnt worry even IF you did steal the iPod yourself. (Im not saying you did, lets talk hypothetically). Unless it can be proven there is little they can do.

I take it this is in the US? You mean you can get into trouble in the US if you are 19 years old and drinking in your own room? I thought the UK was a nanny state! If it was in the UK the Police would laugh at the photographs and probably book the jerk who was wasting their time!

Yeah, we are the real land of the free and the home brave. An 18 year old can drive, gamble, and become a soldier, but they can't drink. I love hypocrisy.

That's excatly what I mean! In the UK it's against the law for a retailer to sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 18 years. However, a 16 year old can legally buy alcohol in a bar if they are going to consume it with food.

Gotta be 21 to drink in most US states.

If they do go forward, just tell them you were having a make believe party with water in beer bottles.

Let them try and prove otherwise.

While each state is supposed to be able to set its own drinking age, federal funds come with stipulations that pretty much allow the central govt to basically make its demands the law of the land. This is similar to the situation in California where medical-marijuana users are licensed by the state, but are busted under federal guidelines.

Our nation's attorney general cares more about national 'morals' than about terrorism, apparently: the main targets of America's top law enforcement agencies appear to be bong users, online gamblers, people who like pornography, and folks who want to pay less for prescription drugs.

    Hooray for America...

You have to be 21 to gamble.

Also this wasnt on the University's owned dorms, it was at a private dorm that isnt affliated with the Unviersity. If the police asks can i just say that it wasnt really alcohol but apple juice lol?

I don't think photos of you drinking can be used as evidence against you as they cannot proof when the photo was taken and what you were drinking exactly. I don't think the police will do much about it since this happened on private property and it's not something serious. IMHO, the worse that can happen is that you will get in trouble with your school for pocessing alchohol on campus.

You only need to be 18 to gamble in Indian casinos. :D

I drank alot when I was younger from my early teens and up. I have had cops catch me drinking at parties I didnt get in trouble "all the time" I have never heard of anyone getting in trouble because the cop saw a picture of them drinking lol. That couldbe a fake picture nowadays anything is possible with a picture lol. I dont think the cops would even consider doing anything. And for a ipod LOL there not going to get a cop but they might get campus security lol.

Cops have better things to do then to go look for an ipod when the person has no proof of what really happened.

Anyhow I am just rambling now so i will stop =)

Usually there isn't one. It's just a law they make to put people off under-age drinking. The police would be allowed to take you to your parents, I suppose or at the very least take away the alochol. But they wouldn't fine you or anything.
