I have an idea. Where to go next?

Ok, so I have a unique idea that I'm quite sure will turn out pretty good. :) Something like the Million Dollar Pixel and like the King of the Bill. Those types of sites.

So, I have an idea and I know what it will be about and how the site should be run.

    Where do I go next?

Should I look for people willing to invest right now for a portion of the profit?
Should I earn some money by myself and then get a coder to code it? (You can see that the coding is bugging me a bit. :D)
    How should I market it?

    Thanks! :)

Yes, see if you can slowly get the coding done, and look for shortcuts that will make it less expensive. Maybe you can find someone that you trade services if money is an issue. Usually great ideas take a little cultivation, so don't rush it.

I think the idea of the Million Dollar Pixel is floating around but most of the sites won't get that much success as the original site, if you have really unique idea you can use digg and such sites to gains enough votes & traffic and so on customers. :)

    Hi,

You mention digg, but I'm not really sure how such social bookmarking sites work. I mean, can you promote your sites on such as digg, MySpace, and Friendster; and if so, how? They seem like really obvious places given the traffic. Any clues how to start there or anywhere else with high traffic?

    Thanks,

Start by joining them. Add your site or sites. If they are good, you will receive traffic. That simple.

I'd build it myself, then market it myself, but I'm like that :)

Earn some money then outsource the coding if you can't do it yourself.
Promotion strategies depend greatly on what type of site it is.. but the
Million Dollar Homepage did well because it got in front of a lot of business
eyeballs on the American major news networks.

You need to build the site/idea. You can do that through finding a programmer or doing it yourself.

Then depending on your idea, you need to figure out the best way of advertising it.

If it's a completely new idea, then advertising it gets challenging because you normal SEO/PPC might not work because it's probably not a searched niche.

So thats when you have think of new things. Try offline ways (radio, TV, papers, etc), then get ads up on sites that you think will have your potential customers.

Let us know how it goes and good luck.

Beware when you share your unique with investors. :D Sometime they might steal your ideas and you get nothing. The best way is find someone that you can trust and combine resources with them as a good start.

Obviously you've got to be a little cagey because you don't want anyone else to steal your idea so I think you should start by talking thru the idea with people you trust and people you think may be interested in adding to the project.

You don't want/can't do the coding yourself so do you know anyone that you trust that could help you get started?

You could build a simple HTML static page that clearly describes your idea and try showing that to your friends?

You say that your idea is similar in nature to the MDHP sites; have you checked out the scripts available for creating those types of sites? You may be able to modify those scripts to suit your purpose - or get someone to modifiy them for you.

There are a lot of MDHP sites out there now, are you sure your idea is different enough to stand out from the crowd?

    Good luck, p.
