Photoshop vs Paintshop - difference?

Can someone explain to me the biggest difference between the 2. I have been using Paintshop, simply because it was less expensive, but I see everyone uses Photoshop and I would like to know why.

    Thanks!

Photoshop is considered to be the 'industry standard' for professional web developers and a good working knowledge is a big advantage.

You should give Gimp (gimp.org) a shot. Gimp is a rip off of Photoshop and 100% free and legal. It is layed out almost identical and just has different names. If you are wondering what you are missing try it and see for yourself :)

PhotoShop is probably more powerfull although I have not had time or the ability to know for a fact. I started out using Gimp because it is opensource and just recently got photoshop. I'll see how it works out.:)

The biggest difference is the price tag ;)

Other than that its just little differences here and there

Photoshop is more powerful just because every tutorial ever written is for it. GIMP is similar, but you kind of have to know the tools to get threw a Photoshop tutorial. None the less, it is Open Source and as close as you can get to Photoshop. If you are thinking about buying Photoshop I would try GIMP out first and see if you like it.

You can download a free trial of Photoshop to see what you think. If you are going to be a professional web designer it's useful to have Photoshop because it is industry standard and people can send you photoshop files.
